Sigh, so by the end of the day...

Had the most perfect signing; borrower had his copies if ID, had the docs emailed to him. At first it was scheduled for Friday, no Monday, ok, Friday again. Finally he got them on Friday, by Friday afternoon he'd studied em, asked his LO all the questions; we signed; we laughed...I almost fell in love. (jk) He; a restaurant owner..gives me discount cards to his restaurants..
Where did I leave those, surely they're not in the package headed back to the SS. Never mind, they're my favorite SS; I'm expecting a UPSed payment any day now such is their MO. Love this work.. Feeling connected, feeling good!!

Got a call for signing number 2, sure I'll do it; my afternoon is clear. 3:00 docs received at 2:40...but being that I'm wearing the Notary Hero of the day cape; I'll get it done, by golly!! Confirmation says at residence, but call to borrower's home leads me to the loan office instead...ok...
What's that you say? You have a 4:00 event? Can we do this fast? Ok...
IDs please. Senor Gonzalez...Why is the spelling on your id card different from the one on the docs? Because the docs are wrong; that's supposed to be an e not an a. No big deal; I don't use that name anyway, I sign FN Hernandez. Gonzalez is my father's last name Hernandez is my real last name. ok...
Senora Maria Beatrice Consuelo Se Quemaron las tortillas Lopez (per docs). Why does your ID say Maria B Hernandez? Because I married him last month, changed my ID, and came to the bank and told them of the change...but the papers are still wrong. ok...
Excuse me while I call someone..
SS says, have him cross out and initial, everywhere he signs, find credible witnesses for her.
I turn to LO, I think it's gonna be a redraw. Credit report expires today; we have to get it done today. Little voice saying, 'Walk away from this one...WALK AWAY!!!' I snap at the little voice; "Really!? this is the first full fee gig in months! Someone is out there in my area accepting 65.00 jobs! Can I afford to walk away?" (If you're reading this..you know who you are..)
"Alright," I tell them, "Go home, call all your friends find two that are willing to swear they knew you as...." I follow them home, then I follow them to their friends house three blocks away Greet, ID, Oath, Sign..., then I follow them home again.. let's get down to the business of signing.
These nice people, who are dressed to go to a Confirmation, dressed in their church best, doused liberally in their favorite cologn and perfume...sign and ask questions and sign, never noticing that their Heroic Notary is feeling faint in the non-air conditioned room, temperature outside 103.
"Little voice, are you still there?" "Ya" "I should have walked away." "Umhmm"
My mouth tastes like metal, my cloths are drenched, my feet hurt, and my eyes welled with tears. I've never felt so bad about a signing. Known it was my best effort; but not my best work. But I have to send it off anyway. Not feeling good about it. No excuses..no whining.

Both jobs, signed, sealed delivered to UPS. 7:30 pm.

As I'm driving home I'm startled that the 'check engine' and two other 'track' lights are on. My one payment to go Toyota has never had a single problem... sigh.
Turning into my drive way I spot a box at my door. Yoohoo, I won the auction for a HP Laserjet P3005. AND IT'S HERE.. There are two of these at my 'day job'. LOVE em!! And I already have one that I won on auction a few months ago; but something was wrong with the formatter board so it worked sometimes in the beginning and then not at all. So you wonder, if you already bid on one printer that turned out to be a dud, why oh why would you bid on another? Because in the mean while, I'd ordered toner, and shipment didn't arrive, so when I called they shipped again. A few days later original order came in! I have six cartridges of toner for a printer just like this one!! And I know they can be the greatest printer. Oh happy days, my printer is here!!

Confession of a desperate Notary: while my laser printer was down, I did several jobs using my Officejet Pro8500. I'm not proud of it. But I did. I asked the SS or TC involved beforehand and they said, go ahead. A couple even said they didn't care what I printed on. I wrote to the NNA, they said, "Not a rule, just preferred" Ok, but I happen to know that there are Notary police out there, not just in Arizona, but here in CA too!! You know for infractions like this I could be tossed in the can and have to prove that my great great great grandfather is the one that crossed the border illegally!! He did, yep, stepped over a rock and poof, there he s a criminal. And you know I can't use my birth certificate as proof, whose going to believe it's real, when the box that says 'Race' says "white" I am far, far, far from white, I’m even a bit far from milk and coffee brown!

I digress, such are my fearful thoughts.

Open up and there is a beautiful printer, open what is now called the toner closet and pull out a brand new toner, install. Find the correct power cable, plug it in...check for tape and packing stuff. POWER ON!! Whirls away HP logos flash in and out...Memory check....Genuine HP Toner Installed...initializing...Ready. Yeeppie!! Whew, as my late husband used to say, “that was better than sex” (not true but..)

Ok, power off, connect to lap top. Power back on...HP Logos....Memory check...error message
Try again...freezes. With the Lap Top, without the Lap Top. With two other different lap tops, with a desk top, with Vista, with Windows, it never reaches the Ready again.

With a long long sigh, I'm ready to call it a day.

We'll try again tomorrow...tears well in my eyes again.

Good night all. Sorry about the long post...but thanks for reading.

I love your story of what a day in this business can be like. "I'm wearing the Notary Hero of the day cape; I'll get it done, by golly!!" That line is just the best! Then the companies don't get it when they offer us insulting low-ball fees--geeeeez, give me a break!

Thank you Yoli. Whew, that was a rough day.
Today is a different story altogether...I'm psyched for anything that comes my way!

Still have two dead printers, and more toner than I know what to do with though...

Hope you have a great day!!
