I've used a Brother MFC8220 for almost 5 years with no problem. It's a real work horse. Got it from All Time Deals. www.alltimedeals.com

They currently have a Brother MFC7440N on sale for $179.49. I have not used that model so can offer no opinion on that.

Good luck!

I have the Brother 8480DN....I have never used the duplex mode. I really like it! It is fast and the consumables are cheap at LD Products. I have a 2nd tray for mine that I bought on amazon. It scans and faxes legal.

I get my printers from OfficeMax and buy their 1 year warranty. It has the EOM warranty for 1 year. So you are covered for 2 years. B that time something starts to give-out on the machine for me for the high volume of printing; and I go back to the store and they give me the full purchase price credit for the machine toward a new one. Basically, I get a new printer every other year for very little out of pocket. Something to consider....they do mark down their machines quite often. Good luck!!!

I also have the Brother 8220 (same as Yoli). I added the second tray and it works wonderfully, choosing the correct paper size. In five years of SA work, I am on my second printer (same model). If it duplexes, I haven't figured out how ;-).

Re: It doesn't scan legal.

My MFC8220 scans legal with no problem. May want to check your settings.

I have a brother MFC7440N, also a real horse had it for 3yrs. Im considering a MFC8480DN just because its more cost effective with toner & Drum.

Using Brothers 8480dn and love it! Very fast, can print 80-85 pages in 3 minutes flat. Mfg. cites print speed of 32 ppm and it does every bit of that.

I also have a MFC-8480DN, which I have used for years. I also bought the extended warranty at staples and have returned it at first sign of trouble and walked out with a brand new one. Recently, staples changed their return policy and only for the first 90 days do they replace it. After that it is sent out for repair. I bought the extra tray for mine, so I print both sizes of paper at the same time. I love it. I switch between using the original cartridge and trying the cheap ones. The cheap ones make me nervous, that they will ruin my machine. I am now thinking about trying refilling. Anyone who uses this, please share with me if you have a place to buy where they replace it if something goes wrong. I print an enormous amount of docs and would be up a creek if it broke and I couldn't replace it instantly. I am even thinking of buying a spare printer to have in my closet just in case, maybe something cheaper, what do you think?
