late docs

I don't do many signings anymore...by choice. I did accept one for today and made sure the company knows my deadline for receiving docs. Well, it's 35 minutes past the deadline. I've contacted them via email and phone; no response. This is supposedly a reputable company. But, I'm left hanging here with no docs and no information.

My experience has been that if they can't get docs out in a timely manner, there is usually an issue. If there is an issue, they sure aren't letting me know.

Yes, Julie, it's happening more often these days. It eems there are fewer & newer employees at lenders & tc's. I had what started out to be a full schedule yesterday, and ended up with postponements all the way around. It was definitely one of those "IGTOFTS" days! I can see why many are getting out of this busness on a regular basis.

What's an IGTOFTS day?

I was specific about needing docs by noon today. Told them I charge $25 late doc fee...and that's IF I can still do the job. They said they can't guarantee the docs will arrive, but that they DON'T pay a late doc fee.

I called them at noon....got voice mail. Emailed them...no response until around 1pm.
Docs did finally show up. At 2:16. Unless they pay a $25 late-doc fee, they can find someone else.

Re: IGTOFTS

In my career as a NSA I
have had all this happen.
Last Saturday, the borrowers
told the L.O.
that I asked for $45.00
from them I could not
imagine this.
only we know what crazy is.

Julie, you have every right to cancel the signing if they refuse to pay your agreed fee. If they missed the deadline and then refuse to pay the additional fee, I'd have no issue canceling the appointment. Especially if they refused to return calls or emails after the deadline.

Be sure to rate them in SC.

If they are unable to show you respect, you have no obligation to show them respect. If they are not willing to pay the fee, it is not likely they will call anytime soon. You really don't have anything to lose by treating them with the same level of respect they offer to you. Let them call another SA and pay any last minute signing fees or have to turn the job back and take a black eye since they seem to not be able to respect others.

It is usually not the SS's or TC's fault the docs are late..

...it is th lender.

I try to be as flexible as possible as I am sure that it is stressful for those at the SS and TC when the docs are late. I try to do what I can for them and they appreciate it. If the late docs will cause a problem with my other scheduled closings I let them know.

I have closings at 3 PM,. 5 PM and 6:30 PM today and let them all know that I need the docs by 1 PM. I have received and printed the docs for the last two and expect the docs for the other one by 1 PM. I do many closings for all 3 of these companies and they appreciate my flexibility and good service.

Same here... I'm getting so tired of the nonsense with loan packages that I'm very picky about the ones I accept now. More and more, I'm considering transitioning solely to general notary work only.

If somebody misses my deadline, I reserve the right to cancel it, flat out. No respect for my time = none for them in return.

I'm transitioning to straight notary work, also. I get paid immediately, don't have to dress up (for the most part) and I don't have to put up with the stress of loan signings.

I created a new business card that doesn't even reference loan signings...just notary work.
I also created a new website! www.kcmobilenotary.com
As of today, I'm offering mobile fingerprinting, too. My kit just came in.

Thanks! I know that I've had to be fingerprinted before (when I was applying to become an e-file provider with the IRS) and it was a challenge finding a place to do it. So, I have no idea how often people will need a fingerprinter, but I guess I'll see.

And, mobile notary work....three jobs already this week. I guess Fedex/Kinkos is now FedEx Office and they don't offer notaries anymore. And, I was told that banks are tightening up on it, also!

Yes, I get calls for work that banks have began refusing to allow their employees to notarize. The pay is immediate and fair. No time wasted in tracking down deadbeats. Smile

Oh yeah... Banks are increasingly refusing to notarize anything except for documents for bank business, even for customers. In California, there are a lot of reasons for it -- first is that the cost is getting too high to become a notary, the liability issues, too.

I've gone to all the banks in town and given the managers my card. One of the managers said they don't have any notaries in their branch any more because they (the bank) aren't allowed to control the notary's journal and seal, even though they paid for it. She said that they just send people down the street to this mail box place. It's skeevy and I wouldn't even step in there myself. She was happy to take my card, and I've received at least 10 calls as a direct referral from her branch.

I far prefer general work over loan signings. Always have.

Just-in-the-nick docs, 3:16 for a 4 o'clock. Enter gremlins

...PAPER JAM! 3:

Mr Borrower already at the bank, waiting.

Never met a Printer I couldn't wrestle paper from.

Out the door, 4 minutes late, updated by the minute...(love my easy iPhone and its speaker phone) and signed a grumpy guy.

Not to mention he has another property thing he started at the same time, with same lender, that wasn't with this package. - all of which, was supposed to close last week in another town up North.

But I digress. In my haste to finish the main loan docs after the gremlin attack, I accidentally forgot to print the last 25 pages.

So, Mr Borrower, who lives a stone's throw from me, signed/dated quicko-fasto, and the day was saved.

But before all that, this morning at around 11 AM, a great Neighbor I signed last week from down the Coast a bit who was really interested a a few pieces of furniture arrived on time, and we went to a splendid lunch at her friend's new pizza place. What a great visit.

All's well that ends well, they say...

Be well, all.
