And on another note

After giving the matter a whole lot of thought, I have decided to close my signing service.
I have had it since 2003 and enjoyed being in that side of the signing agent business.
But with the market being what it is, it is time to call it a day.

My main title company knows they can still call me, however as I told them today, I will still find them notaries but they need to work directly with the notary. I am not passing on their info to other signing services.

So, I may still be calling on some of you for signings, but it will be for you to work directly with the title company. (In fact I did contact a signing agent today for a signing this week, and he is going to be working directly with the title company for the signing).

I am still a notary, and will continue to be, so I am not disappearing from the board.

It's a good feeling being able to close my signing service down knowing I don't owe any notaries for signings.

Those of you on NotRot that have worked with me over the years, please know how much you are appreciated.

I also want to thank Paul for helping me out with the service each year so I could go on a cruise, and also when I was in hospital.

I am asking Harry to remove my business listing from Signing Central.

You'll be missed in the SS world, Sylvia.

Glad you've made a decision that will make you happy.

(That Paul is a pretty good egg.) Smile

Yes, I am very comfortable with my decision. I have thought about it for some time now. I think the real "kicker" was that I am in the process of closing my bank accounts out with the local bank (Both business and personal). I have already opened a new personal (joint with Bruce of course) checking account at a Credit Union, and closing the service now means I don't need to go through the hassle of opening a new business account.

And as I said, I will still be finding notaries occasionally for the main title company that used my signing service. But now they will be paying the notary directly.

LOL
What do you sell though??? I would rather do what I am doing, just find a notary when needed and let them work directly with the title company, knowing that they will get paid, and a fair fee.

You're a great lady, Sylvia. I know we can respect your

decision, based on how the market has changed. It's a shame to see someone like you leave the business. We'll be looking forward to your continued input here, because I know you mentor many notaries.
I'm sure Bruce will be happy that there will be more free time in your life for other activities (snicker). Wishing you all the best! Happy retirement!

hmm I am sure I have no idea what you mean Wink

Bruce figures it means an extra cruise each year.

Another reason, it is not as easy to find competent signing agents during the day - a lot of the ones I trusted have had to take day time jobs - and the bulk of the main title company's signings were RM's during daytime hours and weren't flexible on the appointment time.
Just for that one signing I was called to find a notary for today, I had to make several calls until I could find a trusted signing agent to take it (on NotRot of course). Luckily I get one or two days notice for the signings and they are usually overnight docs (not many companies do overnight docs any more).

Respecting your decision to retire,

I wish you many, many more wonderfully happy and healthy years with your beloved Bruce. Enjoy the fruits of your labor as often as possible. Speaking for myself, and I'm sure many others here on NotRot, we are eternally grateful for your advice and guidance. Please continue to honor us with your input.

We're not saying goodbye. We're simply welcoming you with open arms to our world of being simply a notary. God bless you and Bruce.

Ah but busy with other things Smile Things I really enjoy - like my precious Beamer and Lil Bit - and Bruce, of course. Having some home improvements done which naturally I have to "supervise" LOL

Retirement sux
I left Mother bell 8 years ago, and sitting around watching baseball and the judges shows in the afternoon is the pits.
Golfing and fishing gets old, gofing and fishing only occupies so much time. Staying active is the key.
I limit myself to the signings I feel like doing. 1 maybe 2 per day, and only with reputable companies.
Life is good.
Stay active even if it's volunteer work.
I have the feeling that you are a workoholic - folks like us cannot just shut down.
