Any NC notaries get this notice?
DOBSON — Contrary to information recently released by a national association, someone who serves as a notary public in Surry County or elsewhere in North Carolina is not authorized to perform a marriage.
“The laws have not changed on who can perform marriages,” Surry County Register of Deeds Carolyn Comer said of confusion arising from an erroneous membership solicitation recently mailed to notaries in North Carolina by the National Notary Association.

NNA marriage kit is CRAP
I got one through my bonding agent, and it was awful. The section on filling out marriage licenses was out of date - the ML form they showed for Florida was one that we haven't used here since the 90s, and the fancy marriage certificates they give you was actually an affidavit form for the bride and groom to sign - with a jurat at the end that didn't even comply with Florida law.

The NNA should have to reimburse NC for the costs of
having to issue a special notice due to their erroneous error.
From the article: "...confusion arising from an erroneous membership solicitation recently mailed to notaries in North Carolina by the National Notary Association. That organization’s marketing division indicated in the mailing that notaries in this state can preside over wedding ceremonies, and included a “marriage kit” as a bonus gift in conjunction with its membership appeal.
As usual, they will say or do anything to get money out of you. This national organization is pathetic.

Agree... and
I think the NNA should offer all NC notaries their very own special limited edition collectible NNA-logo canvas bag on rollers, a $600 value free with your 4-year membership and enrollment in their NSA course.

Re: The NNA should have to reimburse NC for the costs of
I wonder if they will refund the membership fee paid by any NC notary who was sucked in by this hoax.... probably not.

Oh shucks! And I had several weddings lined up already!
To answer your question Brenda, if I did receive this via email I would have deleted it without reading it. But nothing was received via US mail.

Maybe only some got the mailing, but I get the idea
that they snail mailed it.

NC would never let a notary perform a marriage...
they have enough trouble understanding that clergy other than Christian are allowed to marry people! They keep trying to invalidate legitimate clergy from performing weddings, other than clergy, the only other person that can perform a marriage in NC is a magistrate, which is not quite a judge.

I am amazed that NC did not change its laws to comply with XYZ's mandate. Maybe you will be lucky down there and someone will remember this little gaffe next time they put themselves forward as THE experts.
