Desktop computer time running fast

The time on my desktop computer has been running fast for awhile, and is currently nearly 2 hours ahead. I keep re-setting the time, but the problem continues.

Any ideas as to what to do about it?

You might be interested in this from NIST

Hi Paul: because of some things I am still involved in as an engineer I like to use the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) a government service. The NIST has an automatic correction service which runs a small applet on your Windows OS called NISTIME-32 and synchronizes your computer clock settings automatically to the Cesium clock used by WWV to broadcast their time signal: a universal timebase used by many in industry and technology. BTW you can get the time signal on short-wave radio from WWV or WWVB based out of Boulder CO.

That's the time server this utility uses. It also has options for using other sources. Additionally, this site offers lots of other options, toys for your website, homepage, desktop, etc.

Could be a symptom

Two things. Are all your updates current? Also the battery on the mother board that keeps settings and time when the computer is off could be dying.

Computer based time is not all that accurate and they correct themselves when you connect to the internet. Not having your updates current could interrupt this process.

Have you considered the fact that.....
