FASS-Signing in Oakland, CA
For two days now FASS has called me for signings in Oakland, which is a good hours drive
for me with no traffic. They wanted me there on Fri morning at 8 am. There was no way
I could do that without leaving my house by at least 6 am. I told them what I would charge
and I think they would have accepted it, however, I suggested they come here and look
up the area code to find someone in the area.
They called again a few minutes ago wanting me to go to Oakland tonight for a 7:30 signing. Again I told her to find someone in the area as I won't go to Oakland by myself at night.
She said she'd already called a lot of Notaries and just kept going down the list.
James, (Notarysigner) has she called you yet?

I told her my minimum on each call and she almost sounded like she would get it approved...but
I know better...not worth it to me to get lost in Oakland then not get paid.

I once worked for a low-baller who agreed to give me their entire fee if I would do the signing. I did it and they paid me. I think their account was on the line.

Not funny, James. That could actually be true.
After living in East Oakland for 25 years, one of my aunts moved to Modesto as she and her husband were afraid to sit on their porch in the evenings anymore. Shots are often heard around there. We only hear about it in the news when someone is hurt or killed.

except there's a 4 square block area (Historical district) that is pristine, well kept, patrolled and almost crime free. Houses were built 1890 - 1910, Victorians, Edwardian, that's were I've been for 28 years. Very diverse.

FASS did not call me. Guess they know I won't accept low-ball fees.
I will go to Oakland for the right pay. Was just there Monday with no problem and didn't even have to negotiate on fee. Wish more companies were like that.

This is a side note but I feel compelled to share. There's an escrow officer that does not like the fact that I get a lot of work from this one SS. So they (TC) told the SS not to use me. (So what! it happens a lot for me.)
I want them (SS) to give the work to my NR family if I'm not acceptable. I'm starting to find out that this is happening and I am happy it makes everybody happy. Life is great. Take it from someone who almost lost theirs!
