Fingerprinting

I want to start fingerprinting, where should I start?

Check to see who your competition is and what the need is. Are you going to do regular fingerprinting or live scan? What is the market in your area? In other words, do your homework. Most everyone who does fingerprints guarantees their work. You also need training.
You have a lot of work ahead of you. Good luck!

In Iowa your competition would be the police and last time I checked they did fingerprinting for free as a community service for the residents of their city. And I do not mean this as a joke. My husband has used the police station when he was transferring his license as a stockbroker from one company to another.

In my city, the fingerprinting at the local PD is not free, just reduced for city residents, there are only two days per week they do fingerprinting for the public and a 2 hour window at that. You have to make an appointment (they don't take walk-ins) and usually it's for the next week and you have to drive there. That's all fine and dandy, until there's someone who needs their fingerprints taken *now* and it's late night, early morning, the weekend or they don't travel.

The niche market is the traveling fingerprinting agent who works 24/7. My Notary biz for general notary work is increasing because after a long day at work, people want someone to come to them...like about 8pm, and are only too happy to pay the travel fee for the convenience of a house call.

I live in Illinois, and I'm sure fingerprinting is done by CPD for free or a small free. But it seems more enticing to offer 24 hours service and offering the service of me traveling to the client. Where should I look to for training?
