Frustrating appointment
Today I get a last minute call for a signing at a loan office about 12 miles away. Docs will already be there, so I just have to show up at 1:30. I show up at the fancy offices of "Well-known Loan Broker" right on time. I walked in and introduced myself to the receptionist, and told her I had a 1:30 appointment with the LO and borrower for a loan signing. She got a confused look on her face as she looked over the appointment sheet. Then she picked up the phone and called the LO and talked quietly to him with her hand over her mouth. She hung up and smiled at me and said "He'll be right out."
After 15 minutes, I begin to get annoyed, but I sat patiently waiting. I thought maybe the BO is running late. After 30 minutes, I was really annoyed. The LO never came out to talk to me at all. He just left me sitting out there. I know I shouldn't have sat there so long. I was trying to be patient and I wanted to get the job done.
At 40 minutes, I got up and went over to the receptionist and said "Do you know what's going on with "Smith" loan signing?" She said she didn't know about it, and that it wasn't on her appt sheet. Then she called the LO again, and he said "We're still trying to get it approved." WHAT?!? They didn't even have the docs done yet. The LO finally came out to talk to me. He was a snotty little twerp who was younger than my son. In a rude and arrogant tone of voice, he said "Why don't you just come back around 3:15. Hopefully we'll get this approved pretty soon. Then we just have to get the Hud approved, then they can do the docs. We can probably be ready around 3:15. I'll see if I can get the borrower to be here by then." I was so mad that I didn't trust myself to open my mouth. I left and called the TC and told them what happened. They were appalled, but asked if I would be able to go back at 3:15. I said no, I was leaving and wasn't going back.

Grrr, why do some people have such little respect for others
I am sure that you had better things to do with your time then deal with that junk. Wonder if they found a last minute person to do the signing for $50 ;o)

Re: Grrr, why do some people have such little respect for others
My fee was $125, maybe some would consider that high since I didn't have to print the non-existent docs, but I thought it was reasonable since it was at the last minute. I fully intend to get paid the trip fee I billed them, and I'll go after it if I don't.
My real beef was with the LO, a stuck-up little fart fresh out of college, who thought his poop didn't stink, and tried to order me around like I was his friggin maid. Sorry babe, at my age I don't have to put up with that kind of crap from anybody. I have better things to do, whether it's getting caught up on extensions for my tax clients, or watching the latest episode of Desparate Housewives. I don't give a hoot, but I sure as heck will not put up with your crap. I hope no one is offended...it's late, I'm tired, and I have a bit of a bad attitude after the day I had today. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Blessings, everyone!!!

Not high at all, at least not to me. I complete signings for $150, docs already printed by broker, sometimes the signings are at his office with a time set and sometimes they are at borrowers home and he leaves it up to me to schedule with the borrower at their convenience. The only difference (from what your 1st post mentioned) is the mortgage broker gives me the borrower's and/or realtor/loan officer's contact numbers so I can call them myself and introduce myself.
Did you have those contact numbers from the TC ahead of time to confirm with the LO? Not blaming, just wondering if you had the opportunity to make the connection so the LO could update you as to when docs would be ready or not.

Re: Grrr, why do some people have such little respect for others
No I didn't have contact info for the borrower. It was a last minute "emergency" with about 30 minutes notice. "Can you get over there asap, and you don't have to print the docs. Just go to their office." It sounded to me like the borrower and LO were there waiting, and they either forgot to request a notary, or the other notary bailed at the last minute. The TC was in panic mode, so I just went with the info I had.
Big mistake!!

Reminds me of the Ameriquest days.....those LO's were kids and ef bombs flying everywhere and the girls dressed like ladies of the evening.....

So true (for many, not all, of course). And making so much fast, easy money that they became very full of themselves without a care for anyone else. However you want to look at it (fortunately or unfortunately), they did get their comeuppance when Ameriquest and the market as a whole took a dive. I wonder sometimes (for a second or two) what some of those folks are doing these days. Flipping burgers? Washing dishes? Oh, wait! Maybe they're doing loan signings!
Sorry, that wasn't very nice. I'm sure the industrious ones among them have applied their work ethic - hopefully with an improved attitude - to pursue something else, even if it is notary work. The smart ones may have acquired an attitude adjustment and may be much the better person for that experience. At least one can hope...

They'd have received an invoice from me...
For travel and wait time... and I'd make sure they paid it, too.
How RUDE!

Re: They'd have received an invoice from me...
Marian, I don't know how we can guaranty they would pay the invoice. I know what you mean but the best thing to do is to remember this lesson and when a job similar to that comes up again, let them know that after ten minutes wait, they have to agree to full payment. Again the problem with all of this is that we, most times, live in different states than our clients and are almost powerless to totally enforce payment.

Well that's what I mean...
They would know my wait times up front.
And I'm not afraid to pay a lawyer to write up a letter for me. You'd be amazed at how quickly things get paid when a lawyer's name shows up.

How could the title company, not know if the docs were there or not, when they scheduled you the first time? I am thinking your hiring party was not the title company, but a SS.
