Has this happened to you?
Received this email, after having received the confirmation email.
"I am so sorry but we found someone that could do this signing for $80. Right now we need to save money but we will keep you for a backup for this closing. Thanks for your understanding."

"...keep you for a backup..." They don't *even* want to
know my stand-by fees...
Geez Louise...Who did this?

I hope you waited and did not take another job in case they called back.

I hope you are able to tell who this is so you can save the rest of us this BS. It's okay if you don't want to but that's absolutely ridiculous.

There is a confidentiality clause in the email, so I won't say who sent it. The "other notary" is accepting $40 less. I am sure that she didn't know anything about it. But that is it for that company. As has been written before, that is too low for printing docs, etc.

That clause means the e-mail is meant specifically for the recipient..unless you signed a confidentiality agreement with the company you can spill it..:)

the confidentiality clause is for if you take the assignment...anybody who sends you an email cannot expect you to not say anything about it, otherwise perverts would be running wild!

yep, from a FORMER client ...
I don't roll that way, as they say. I got asked to do a closing for my set fee for the next day, then the next day I inquired about an ETA on docs ....'OH, gosh, sorry, found someone who would do it cheaper, forgot to tell you ...so sorry!'
Never, EVER again would I work for such a party. You go the extra mile a few hundred times, and then you get this? No thanks.

LOL - is this a surprise?
They've always done that, I've just never had them actually come out and *tell* me that they were continuing to shop for someone cheaper. But we all know that's what they do.

No it hasn't, but at least they are either honest or intimadating. How far was the signing and what was it? Are they regular and always paying clients? Next time they contact you what are you going to do? Stick to your price or reduce it? It's your business and these are choices we have all had to make.

What a bunch of bologna! My reaction to that would be one of two things: Double my original fee if they wound up calling me to do the job or Tell them to never call me again.
They should have lied to you and told you the job was cancelled. I think that's really a bad business practice to do what they did. Please tell me who it was.

Hey, at least they told the truth .... something that is sadly lacking these days.
Saying the signing was canceled almost always translates out to this anyway.
I would like to know who it was, also.

That is such a pathetic way to run a business, but it is probably better to know the truth. That way you are not strung along by them, lying, telling you it was cancelled, when really, like others have pointed out, it was given to some one cheaper. At least I think so. I would not want to work for a company that knowingly plays that game. If this was a new company to you, and you have no intentions of working for them, please tell us who it is.

I agree, Sheila. I had a situation not too long ago where I was told last minute that a Friday evening closing (that was a late call to begin with) had canceled because they didn't get the docs. I think it was one of those situations where they agreed to pay me a slightly higher fee than they wanted because of the circumstances. Early the next week they call telling me it's on again (for the previously agreed upon fee). I come to find out from the borrower that my appointment is a re-sign and they had signed Friday evening after all, but with a different notary.
I was not told anything about why they were having to sign again or why they used a different notary. So I show up thinking it's just Friday's appointment rescheduled, and then have to tap dance to keep from looking like a one-cell because I'm clueless about anything that transpired before. I hate being blind-sided like that.

Disgusting--"I am so sorry"--they definitely
were not sorry to pull that trick. I hope the "someone" they found for a low-ball fees gives them exactly what they deserve. Unfortunately, this business, like any other will have people undercutting fees. I'm tired of the fact that this country now operates on the "Walmart philosophy".

Just because I am who I am I would be tempted to accept another job from them and then email them back, saying you had to cancel bc you got an offer from another SS who will pay MORE.
