JMT
I used to have JMT signings often. Then they called and advised me that if I didn't have a smart phone and the ability to accept signings via the phone they would not be using me anymore. Since then I have not heard from them. Their fees are so low I could not justify getting a smart phone.

I got a.smart phone last Dec and cannot imagine life without one again. I did not get one for a particular company but I have found it makes life so much easier.

JMT
I have a smart phone - a Blackberry Bold - and am given preference for closings by JMT. I was solicited by them for the program and receive notice of closings by text message and handle about 20 a month. These 20- minute closings are easy and routine...business is slow in general and I appreciate the $1,000 a month I get from JMT.

JMT still calls me the conventional way (just last Wednesday) but just wanted to pay the 50 bucks for a signing of 140 miles round trip. Now if someone out there can make money doing that, I would like to know how. I guess it just depends on your zip code if you can make money or not. I don't know who they got, but they were pretty firm on 50 bucks. Someone had to drive as there are no notaries within 70 miles of the address they gave.

I miss JMT :(
I don't have a smart phone, so imagine someone who is full-time reading e-mail 24/7 is getting all the CT work.
The borrowers were always pleasant, read their package and JMT was nice to work with. Local and no-hassle appointments makes up for a lower fee.

Those closing for JMT: always Quicken Loans/Title Source?
Just wondering if they are strictly Quicken or other lenders and title companies.
Thanks.

Re: JMT--I still get calls the old-fashioned way
Not many, but that's typical of this area. This thread got me to thinking about the number of ways notaries are being herded along for everyone's benefit--except the notary. When I began doing this, I needed 3 things: a telephone, car & a notary Commission. Worked fine, paid better than today when we must have an expensive does-everything-but the dishes cell phone, printer, internet....and they'd just love for us to have portable everything--laptops, printers, tethering, aircards, fax, copiers-- Where will it end while we are continually assaulted with needing more, more, more stuff while they want to pay less, less, less?

So, if you accept $50 for 80 pages....
what do you charge for, say, one page, as in a Grant Deed? JMT is in my territory (Visalia) and I believe $50 was their rate 8 years ago. I've never worked for them and I wouldn't with those kinds of fees but is that what people were accepting during the "heyday" too? I'll bet they made a killing!! This just kind of boggles my mind.

1 doc & close - $50... if further, travel fees apply, of course. One month ago, docs to Borrower = $90 & was a Quicken.

Re: So, if you accept $50 for 80 pages....
Glad to hear, Lee. I am flexible with my fees, it's very subjective on the circumstances but I just don't get that $50 for 80 pages when that's what most charge for a one-page document. To each his own I guess and it must work for some.
