Light at the end of the tunnel...
So I guess hard work and being steadfast with my fees, after 7 (yes SEVEN) long years with XYZ Title company, has finally paid off! So I get a call from this company that used me incessantly the first two years, and then called these past five only when they didn't have a choice (couldn't find a lowballer, lowballer not available, or lowballer dropped the ball and they need a re-sign.)
Well apparently the lender was fed up with the lowballer notary errors and threatened to pull the business unless they ONLY assigned their BEST notaries. Lo and behold, I'm considered one of their best  So now I am the notary for this lender's closings in my area, and the calls are more frequent and no more haggling over my fees. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel! One tunnel down, 20 more to go...

As you said, it does pay off in the end. We just have to be persistent in asking for what we deserve. That can be a little difficult especially during the difficult times this business is going through. One of my statements when the lowballers call and tell me they can get it done for a lot less is, "we all know what our work is worth" Good for you.
