Low price offers: $60.00 for e docs
I just got a call for an e doc signing twenty miles from home in less then three hours. Offered $60.00. Can anyone make any money performing an e doc signing for $60.00? Is there anyone out there who can explain why they take these jobs? They must be getting someone to perform them. Erwin

IMO...don't even call me for these
Send the docs to the borrower and give them my name and number - I'll work the payment details out with the signers - for a full loan package, the per notarization fee will pay more than that - and if it's close enough I'll waive my travel fee.

Had one like that this week...
Four documents, two signers, fifteen minutes, $80 cash on the spot. And they met me somewhere close by (convenient for them, too) so I was happy to waive my travel fee.
I'll take as many of those as I can get!! If that's the trend, I'm all for it!

I have found that a lot of the "newbies" think they are not worth as much as someone who is experienced. I say that if you don't know what you are doing you are worth NOTHING and if you do know what you are doing don't take any less money than what is typical for your area.
Although I and probably everyone else gets bored with the same "lowball" posts on this forum, we need to talk about this on a regular basis to reinforce how important it is to keep the standards high.

I'm in total agreement with you, Carol. These low-ball fees
are beyond ridiculous. IMO we need to counter every offer with a realistic figure, and tell them that's the going fee.

, Sorry for type-o , Grammyzoom.. Totally agree. I know a little about common wealth/Law States( Hell, I don't even know if I said that right..) But some States set monetary limits on what Notary Publics should charge? I owned a Mobile Notary Service in a small town here in La. for 3 years, Notaries there were charging $10.00 a witnessed sig./ Notarized, ie...Billl of Sales and Car/Truck/Boat, titles. $35.00 Closings, with edocs. and etc... and not because that was the limit they could charge, but that's who got the call to make it.. Well needless to say. My ,Hubby and I had to move back to my home town of Slidell , after my He became 100% DAV , to be closer to my family for help with him.
Now Notaries here, charge anywhere $35-$40 a signature, pluse travel fee of $20-$30. I'm still working the waters around , on prices to charge , I too don't want to be a lowballer. But if Notaries here are getting this much I'll stick to what their charging.
But like my old Grandma used to say, ( bless her heart) ... "Monkey see Monkey do"...
So , I'm opened for any suggestions for Louisiana or for any other State...imo

"..$35-$40 a signature, pluse travel fee of $20-$30."
WOW! Maybe I should rethink my stance against living in LA again. LOL
Is that for Slidell area or in cities like N.O. across the bridge?
If that is an example of the average prices in the area, I can't imagine anyone accepting a closing for less than $250+.

20 miles from Reseda? Are they high?
HAHAHA... don't they know what it's like to just drive THREE miles in that neighborhood?
Adn they want you to go 20? That's crazy talk... I can't believe they couldn't find somebody closer. Even if they could $60 is shameful.

Re: 20 miles from Reseda? Are they high?
Marian: It was in Santa Clarita. They called me at 8:00 am for a 10:30 signing. Just the travel fee allowed by the IRS would eat up $20.00 of the fee they were paying. I would be getting only $40.00 for the signing before paying to print, paper, taxes, etc. Erwin

Reseda to Santa Clarita? That's nuts. There are tons of notaries in SC...
I'd charge a hazard fee for being asked to go on the 405!

I think it would be a plus if these companies were named or at least the info posted in the comments section of S/C We all need to know what to expect from those calling us. That little 5 sec heads up can prevent a heart attack.

Offered $90, edocs, 3 copies of docs, one for each borrower and 37 miles each way today, an $85 reverse mortgage 43 miles each way yesterday. Would much prefer to stay home in air conditioning and watch a good movie or even do housework than accept these 2. Unfortunately, someone is taking them but it ain't gonna be me! Hope everyone has a great Fri. and gets lots of offers for decent fees!

Rate in SC for sure, James
I agree 100%.
The more of these low ball offering companies are 'outed' there may be a greater chance that some of the notaries that accept these low ball fees will realize they are accepting lower than a professional fee for their services. Hopefully, the companies too, will take note that their low ball offers might be hurting their own reputations with signing agents and decide to stop the practice.
You want a professional, offer a professional fee. It's simple, respect me and what I have to offer and I will respect you and what your company has to offer.
If a SS has negotiated their fees to below our starting fee (usually around $125 - $150 for edocs) then, honestly, it's time they should think about either getting better negotiators or get into another line of work. JMO I don't lower my fees because you (meaning an SS) have made some deal with another company for your benefit. Let me deal with TC directly so that you can start you new business.

Must be the same company that is paying notaries from San Bernardino $60.00 do drive Cajon Pass to Victorville . I guess no one up here will take that fee. I turn at least one down daily. But as long as there are people willing to lose money to get work, all we can do is remain firm.

I'm in awe that anyone would actually
do that!
Glenn, out where we live, driving distances is no big deal...in fact, it's pretty normal for me to drive 30-40 miles out to Mojave/Cal City - but you darn bet I'm getting paid for it!
But to go from the city up this way? Makes no sense why anyone would agree to do that.

I think that Grammyzoom hit the nail on the head.
I ran into one at Fedex and she felt that since she was new, that she had to get her foot in the door by taking whatever offer that comes along. Once she is established, she felt that she could ask higher fees. She had no clue that they will dump her as soon as she tries to raise her fees even a few dollars. Then what after losing all that money trying to "get your foot in the door?" I tried to explain it, hope I got through.

It just shows a lacl of basic fundamentals of
business sense. Anyone dooing that who knows at least a little bit about running a business, or did any amount of research before starting would realize it was not a good approach.
I don't care if they do it... it's their choice... but at least I know none of them stick around very long.

Lowball Fee Schedule
$40 edoc signing fee = $4.44 per hour $50 edoc signing fee = $5.56 per hour $60 edoc signing fee = $6.67 per hour $70 edoc signing fee = $7.78 per hour
These fees are synonyms with: dumping you when they find a $30 Notary; net 60/90/120/Never - pay days; 190 sheet packages with total package fax backs; no-contact borrrower; calling you before, during, & after the signing; drive distances beyond 30 miles one way; short notice - call you at 4pm for a 2pm signing - and expect you to "hop to it", etcetera, etcetera, and so forth.
Get a job at the Mall - your check is *guaranteed* every 14 days!

because the newbies don't know any better, or some really
really need the money, or something is better than nothing...pick an excuse....these and more have all been posted and defended unfortunately, on this forum....and its sad.
If it comes down to accepting fees less than $100, then its time to quit this profession....IMHO.
What was the scum bag company if you don't mind sending them a shout out here?
