You got some very good advice on your Sunday post. If you are uncomfortable with ebay, then use Amazon as jba suggested twice.

Re: GS: I think he feels a bit stressed...I know I might.

You are right, Thanks.
For an older, technology challenged individual it's even more stressful trying to get the "clerks" at Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy ect to try to understand what you need and what you want. Please, don't even suggest HP Store on line. I have to know more than they.
Today has been hot, weather wise 100, but business has been managable.
Again, Thanks
Sid

Define "older" :)

I do know what you mean. I lot of technology I just let go by me. And I do find that the people at the big box stores don't even know about the items they are trying to sell.

Now, I am trying to figure out what kind of new sewing machine to buy my wife for her birthday. If you think buying a printer is stressful, try a @#$@#$@# sewing machine. Her is over 30 years old and is worn out. I am just going to forget the surprise and take her shopping for one.

I'll read that a few more times before I go to bed...but I don't think I will ever unravel what it means. I just want to thank you, though, because it is very entertaining! Smile

Re: Define "older" :) Dear Sid...

I think he said: he's with wife #5, who has far outlasted the combined years with the other 4, and whatever number Charlie Sheen of 2.5 men could tack on. Otherwise, forever. a very lo-o-o-g time. So long, that he knows she deserves the treat of picking out her own $3K sewing machine if that is what she wants since he will benefit somehow from her joy.

But, as we all know, I have been known to be wrong. (but not here I think)

Well - just reread part of this and realized I got Glenn & Sid rolled into one person, different wives.....

or something, somehow combined....

My face is red -

This must be highly amusing to everyone else - I certainly hope you can find the humor as fast as I'm going to find a nice, cool drink.

Re: Define "older" :) Dear Sid...

Charlie Sheen has been married 3 times. His first marriage lasted a little over a year, his second one just under 3 years and his current one he married in May 2008 and is waiting for a plea deal on the domestic abuse charge - so wonder how long she will stay married to him.

Re: Define "older" :) Dear Sid... Jules...I read between

the lines of your post...realized that Glenn was buying the sewing machine for his wife, not Sid.

I think you are right!

Sid talks about his wife like she's a queen (in person) so I wasn't sure what that meant. She's a good lady, I know that. Alright...satisfied with partial translation. Can go to bed comforted by truth.

:)

Glenn, I just gave my uncle who is 76 a brand new sewing

machine and taught him how to sew.  He is just thrilled and loves it.  Its never too late to learn with your wife.   hehe

My mom's "boyfriend" sews.

He made curtains for her dining room just the other day. She didn't like the color of part of the panels, so he started over and remade them.

I used to LOVE to sew...just don't make the time to any more. It's a great craft to have.

Re: Glenn, I just gave my uncle who is 76 a brand new sewing

My mother taught me to sew 50 years ago, as she brought up 4 on her own and I was the baby. If I wanted anything sewn we (we, the kids) did it ourselves as mom was too busy working. I can hold my own when it comes to minor fixes, do not have the skill level of my wife, however.

Boy, are we off topic or what??!?!?

Re: Define "older" :)

Glenn, I think that's a wonderful idea. What you could do is give her a home made gift certificate good for a sewing machine of her choice. (You could put a maximum cash value on it if you want - good for "up to $XXX".) But I think that would be the best possible, most thoughtful way you could possibly give it to her! That way, you can have both the excitement of the surprise and the fun (for her) of shopping for her gift and by going with her, you still can share her joy when she gets it.

If she's a sewer, she knows what to look for and probably already has very clear ideas of what she does and does not want. There's no way you could read her mind, but if you let her choose, she'll end up with what, for her, is the perfect selection! Nothing better than that!!!

BTW, guys, IMO this advice holds true for nearly any type of gift for a woman that a guy doesn't know a lot about, like kitchen stuff, for example - unless you're a cook yourself, or even jewelry - unless you really know her taste and have good taste yourself. But maybe this is just me... Wink

Best of luck!

Ok. I just wanted to call his attention to your sound advice. He did miss it.

I guess I am just getting too old to get stressed.

I'm too hot, stressed enough just with the heat. AC is all that matters right now! Bless whoever invented it!

For both the "tekkie challenged" (me) and knowledgeable

types, I highly recommend Computer Discount Warehouse (CDW)
(To avoid board advertising issues I will not post contact infor here, but you might try adding a dot com to CDW)
If you call them you will reach a highly trained, knowledgeable ENGLISH speaking person
in Illinois , in lieu of Chittychittybangbang in Pakistan. They talk you through all issues.
Even more importantly , if you have any questons or problems with equpment you have a
24/7 help line with, in my experience, never more tha a minute or two wait. time. Again, their
tekkies are in Illinois. When you give them your name, they have everything that you ever purchased from them pop up on their screen.
Their headquarters are only a few minutes from me, so I usually just
drive there when I need something , but phone or online service is just great.
