Need to vent!

Have closing scheduled for 5:30 today. Tell them needs docs by noon to make 5:30 as I work 8-5 and would print on my lunch break. Told borrower when confirmed last week if I don't have docs by noon will have to push back a little so I can run home to print first. I only live 3 miles from work. Scheduler even knew that. Call borrower at end of lunch break to say don't have docs so I will be late. I got ripped for calling them and telling them that. Cripes just trying to be courteous and let them know ahead of time. I've never had that happen before. Just needed to vent. Was I wrong in doing that?

you mean that you have something else to do rather than sit at your computer and wait for the docs? the docs that will arrive 15 minutes before the appt time that is a 45 minute drive--that you can't be late for?

You let them know upfront that you work 8-5. These companies that won't allow us to adjust times for reasonable issues are ridiculous. It's one thing to show up whenever (I hear of notaries that do that kind of thing). Keeping the borrower informed was the right thing to do, IMO.
BTW, I do this full-time (no other gig) and I rarely would get docs by noon for a 5:30 signing.

I personally don't think you were wrong but then who did you tell ? SS or TC. Scheduler doesn't know the answer most of the time. Remember the TC usually prepares the Docs so they don't want to be embarrassed either. Were they waiting for the lender to send additional docs (usually).

It is important to establish a "drop dead" time which others have mentioned time and time again on this forum. That is a business decision you have to make. For me, it's two hours before the appointment. You risk losing the signing however if you're not diplomatic in your demand. If they ask you to set the signing time you may have to re-schedule. If they set the signing time, it's on them if you get the docs late. IMO

They know I work FT 8-5. Even on my confirmation said need docs by noon. I know that many companies don't get them to me at that time and I expect that. I tell them my drop dead time is 5:00 p.m. in my inbox when I walk in the front door. I am flexible to a point but I also work all day for an attorney and there are days where I don't want to go back out but I do. The original time for the closing was 4:30 and I explained to the guy can't do because I work til 5. He said what time could you be there by and I said 5:30 if I have docs by noon. That was a big IF....lol.

2 hours to go but I am back at work and I can't print stuff here. On occasion if I am here alone then I may sneak it in but not today. Boss is here.

I am curious

You mentioned that you "can't print stuff here" at your 9-to-5 job. Then you say that if your boss isn't there "I may sneak it in." How does that work? Who pays for the paper and toner when you sneak one in?

I am curious, too

Excellent point, Linda!

To OP: Seems to me that if you can't do something when the boss is there, you shouldn't be doing it when (s)he isn't there, imho... Using their paper and toner sounds like theft to me, and if you're not using their paper and toner, then you're possibly stealing time that they're paying you for - unless you have absolutely nothing else you could be doing and you would just be sitting on your thumbs otherwise...
