New one on me
I've been asked to do a medical records retrieval for a company for which I have done several since 2007. The scheduler has declined to provide the courier account number based on company policy. Instead, she said she will schedule a pickup at whatever place I designate. This has not been a problem with this company before.
In thousands of notarizations, I've never had a client refuse to provide a courier account number. I understand the rationale: They don't want the account misused. But if they are prepared to trust me with medical records, I would think that they also would be prepared to trust me with the account number -- especially since not doing so will result in much higher courier fees.
As I noted, in thousands of transactions over eight years, I've just never run across this before. Is this something other agents have had to confront with any degree of frequency?

I haven't Hugh but I recently found out they can cross reference the account number by simply giving them the name. UPS/FedEX that is.

Never had this happen.
Now my question: why isn't the question being answered? Like many of us OP is older, not senile. He knows all those methods proposed, but that was not the question.
Staying on topic shouldn't be that difficult. It was a simple question: Has this happened to you? Answer: yes, no, sometimes, frequently, never.
How hard is that?

Not sure what the problem is here.
I have never had a client refuse to provide an account number, but that's certainly their prerogative and I wouldn't take it personally.
Maybe these folks got burned by someone who fraudulently used their account number. Who knows and who cares? If they prefer to arrange a pickup on their dime, why would that be an issue?

I care enough to ask. Is that a problem for you? If it is, you don't have to read and certainly do not have to respond to the post.
The post did not use either the word "problem" or the word "issue." It simply noted that in thousands of signings, I had never encountered that before. Between the posters to this board, there must be millions of signings. So far, no one has posted to indicate they had encountered a similar practice. That is sufficiently beyond the norm to warrant comment.
The participants on the forum do still have the right to post relevant observations and experiences, do they not?

I have a title company, located just outside of my home
county, ( about 30 miles one way) that sends the office courier to pick up packages from me, on their way North to their office in the morning. I imagine they live out my way, so it is easy for them to make a stop as they head north. Once in a blue moon they have me use fedex.

Yes, it has happened to me with one company
This particular TC said that another person (didn't say if it was an employee or an IC) who worked for them had misused their Fed Ex account number, and had sent packages to their family for Christmas....on the TC's Fed Ex. She said they changed their account number, and Fed Ex had insisted they didn't give it out anymore, but to send a pre-printed label to the shipping party. I don't know how much this may have cost the company, but it must have been significant.

Why do you always attack people when you don't agree with them? You're the guy always talking about how unprofessional that is, yet you do it constantly.
Calm down. I expressed an opinion; you're not required to agree with it or even read it. If you want to bully someone, go do it in Politics.

Your post was snarky, despite your purported surprise at the tenor of the response. I don't do snarky. If you post similar replies in JPol, you will receive similar replies in JPol. Or in Leisure. Or on my Facebook page. Or on the IHOP bulletin board.
The answer, it appears to me, is to be more gentlemanly in your responses.

My post wasn't snarky, you just read it that way. Clearly, you were imagining a tone of voice that wasn't there. Maybe I should use emoticons to make things easier in the future...
Had I suggested that you were an idiot for saying what you said, I would expect (and probably deserve) to get the type of response you made. I didn't do that, but that's the way you chose to read it.
All I did was express my opinion on the topic; I made no judgments or insinuations about you.
And I agree that the answer is to be more gentlemanly in your responses; you would probably do well to follow your own advice.

I've not encountered it with notary work, but at the large firm I work for, EMPLOYEES aren't even allowed to have the account number. We have access to generate labels via an online system with a password, but not the actual account number.
