I think we all need "hammers"..demand letters just don't seem to be doing the job.

You sued AND got got a judgment less than 60 days
after you did the job? Wow...I can understand their e-mail responses to you were a source of concern - surprised you got before a judge so quickly...AND found one so accommodating after so short a time.
Courts in CA must be on one of the fastest tracks I've ever heard of ...

Re: You sued AND got got a judgment less than 60 days
Morning...No No I showed my paperwork from the "other" suit to show them I would follow through. Courts in Ca? You'll get your notary commission quicker then a court date. The Max time I allow for payment is 30 days, that must go along with the confirmation. If not I don't take the job. My business plan allows for no work.
Now you know why I've had so much down time lately. LOL

What works for me
***The Max time I allow for payment is 30 days***
I am far more lenient in my collection policies. So are most businesses, I think. It works well for me.
I have one title company client, for example, that I did 65 closings for last year, at an average fee of $139 per closing. They sometimes are slow pay. I don't really worry about payment from them or other clients until they go beyond the 60-day mark. If for some reason I failed to get paid for the approximately 11 closings I would have done for the company during that 60-day grace period, I still would have earned an overall average of $116 per closing. I can live with that worst-case scenario as long as they are sending me more than 60 closings a year.

Re: What works for me
I would do the same thing Hugh. I do have two clients that pay me once a month, in their time frame, and actually deposit the funds into my account. I don't worry about them, but for a new client, it's 30 days period.
I really don't want to deal with any of that type of stress at this point in my life. If I don't get a job because of my policy, then okay with that too.
