laptop keyboard

I just got a laptop

I will be typing then when I go over to hit enter I lose my writing? I thought that maybe I was hitting wrong key on the right but, I played around with all the keys but it doesn't happen!
Do any of you have this problem?

Just a WAG! What app are you using to write? Maybe Enter isn't set to advance
the curser. Check Preferences.

Yes, nearly pulled my hair out....

If we are talking about the same thing...I use a regular old-fashioned mouse on my lap top, not the finger thingy one on the computer. All my text was getting erased because my palm kept hitting the mousepad.

My old HP laptop had a button that clicked off the mousepad. When I got my Dell a few months ago, I was in a state of distress and frustration. I called Dell technical support, and the tech went on my home page and set the setting to disable the keypad. Life is good again.

I don't know if that's the problem you are having, but hope this helps.

Now that you say that..it could be my thumb hitting the pad. It happens when I reach over with my right hand to hit enter.

Ali - try CTRL+Z as soon as you see your writing disappear.

It happens to me all the time when I am typing because of the sensitive mouse pad on my laptop.

CTRL+Z is the universal keystroke combo for "Oops!"

Press the CTRL key + the Z key at the same time. (I do the CTRL, then press the Z.) It will undo the last edit you made. In most situations it will undo several edits.

I do a lot of writing. I use CTRL+Z all the time to undo the last thing I wrote or deleted inadvertently. When I am working on touching up images and I don't like something I just did, CTRL+Z to undo one change, or several.

It's a MUST HAVE in your computer user toolbox. It will restore your sanity.

You're welcome! It's my computer lifeline.

It works on this forum, as well as in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, etc., etc.

Viva la CTRL+Z!

You're probably dragging your thumb or your palm across the mouse pad without realizing it. You can either train yourself to change the way your hands rest on the keyboard, reduce the sensitivity of the mouse pad, or use an external mouse (the option I use - I hate those mouse pads) .

If you do the latter, make sure to set your laptop mouse options to disable the mouse pad if an external mouse is detected.
