sellers docs

Newbie in Az needs to know: what should you charge if a seller contacts you for a signing? I've only learned about buyers! The sellers needed their docs signed late last night.

Contacted directly by Seller? Depending on your state, I think you can only charge state-regulated notary fees plus a minimal travel fee. You're being contracted as a notary - not as a signing agent.

And you should have been paid at the table....not after the fact.

Thanks for your input. I did not do the signing I believe my quote was outrageous and he never called back. Live and learn.

Re: seller's docs= buyer's docs=borrower's docs = etc/ etc

When you are hired by the signer of ANY dox , you may charge a maximum of
what your state permits for notarization. If you charge for doc review, supervisiing sigs.
etc, etc you are in the area of unauthorized practice of law.
When you are hired by a TC/SS/Lender, you can charge whatever you agree with the
hiring entity for printing, travel, courier, etc, etc as these services are not regulated and can be performed by anyone. The notarization, while , necesarry is incidental to the purpose of why you are hired to get dox signed and delivered.

I think you should have added a caveat, Bob. A notary would still be entitled to charge for travel and after-hours service. At least, that would be the case in Texas, per the SOS.

"A notary would still be entitled to charge for travel and after-hours service"

That's why I mentioned 'depending on state' - I believe AZ is one of those states that doesn't allow a travel fee....could be wrong but I thought that's what was stated here previously - if wrong I stand corrected.

I interned my post to include ALL state authorized charges in connection with a notarization,
but thanx for the claification.
The IL notary statute is silent on the issue of travel, late hour, dangerous area, crazy signer,
etc, etc, and only talks about $1 for a reguar notarizaton. Certain additional charges for immigration dox.
As I said, state laws differ, but I do not believe that any state permits additonal notary fees
for seller dox, buyer dox, etc.
