Adobe/PDF question
Sometimes when I get a PDF attachment, the documents show a paper/media size of 14.33 X 10.12 instead of 8.5 X 11. If I uncheck "print by PDF size", I can force it to print 8.5 X 11, but the text is much smaller. I have received several attachments in one email and some attachments are like this and others contain docs that are 8.5 X 11 paper size with normal text size. I was wondering if it is a scanning issue? Can it be corrected to print normal 8.5 X 11? I have Adobe Reader 9 version.

You sure some aren't intended to be legal size? n/m

Re: You sure some aren't intended to be legal size?
No, this same attachment also has some docs that are legal size. I have encountered this a number of times. I have checked all my settings and can't seem to resolve it.

It's the scanner on the other end- set your printer
temporarily to "print as image" -
Pull up docs, Print, Advanced, check Print As Image, hit OK, print docs.
It will be slower, but it ignores the .33 business, and prints normal legal size. If you have a dual tray printer, don't forget to set printer, under Print, and check Print Depending on Paper Size, or something like that. It will automatically print letter or legal, depending on the scanned page size.
Hope that helps.

Re: It's the scanner on the other end- set your printer
thanks for your help. I did modify this way, and it prints on letter size, but the text is smaller than it should be. I have sent in docs this way and it is accepted, I just wondered it there was a different way to correct it. Why does the scanner do this? Another attachment in that same email did not have this media size. Is it how they load the paper in?

Do not print "as image"
In the printer playout window, you will be asked about "Page scaling". Be sure it states, "Shrink to printable area". If you have a dual tray printer, be sure the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" is checked.

Re: Do not print "as image"
I have done all those things ("shrink to printable area", also tried "fit to printable area" . It DOES then print on 8.5 X 11, but the text font is smaller. I am mainly concerned about the DOT in these cases. I have printed and sent docs back that way, never had a problem with it being returned. Just was looking for a more acceptable solution, and also an answer to why it scans over to me that way in the first place. I have two different printers and this same attachment printed that way. Any one else experience this?

Re: Do not print "as image"
You can always call the tc or hiring party. Sometimes they will re-scan the docs.

Re: Do not print "as image"
thaks, when I have time I do. This was on a very busy day, late in the day, etc etc. It worked out and has in the past.
I just wondered if there were technical fixes to this. There doesn't seem to be, so I'll just continue to deal with it as I usually do. thanks everyone

Re: Do not print "as image"
I've run into this before, too, and I ended up printing everything on legal size. I remember it driving me nuts because it confused my printer and I didn't pick up on what the problem was right away. I don't remember how I finally got it figured out. I might have just printed it on a different printer that wasn't a dual tray to force it to go to legal. That way it didn't shrink the font. At the time, my dual-tray was pretty new and I hadn't figured it all out quite yet. I agree, though, that it's definitely how they were scanned at the other end.

Different print options do render the page differently
In Adobe Reader:
Page Scaling: Reduces, enlarges, or divides pages when printing.
None Prints the upper left or center of a page (if auto-rotated and centered) without scaling. Pages or selections that don’t fit on the paper are cropped.
Fit To Printable Area Reduces or enlarges each page to fit the printable area of the currently selected paper size. For PostScript® printers, the PPD determines the printable area of the paper.
Shrink To Printable Area Shrinks large pages to fit the currently selected paper size but doesn’t enlarge small pages. If an area is selected and is larger than the printable area of the currently selected paper, it’s scaled to fit the printable area.
Multiple Pages Per Sheet Enables N-up printing, where multiple pages print on the same sheet of paper. If this option is selected, you can also specify settings for Pages Per Sheet, Page Order, Print Page Border, and Auto-Rotate Pages.
Note: N-up printing in Acrobat is independent of the N-up printing features of printer drivers. The Reader print settings don’t reflect the N-up settings of the printer drivers. Select N-up printing either in Reader or in the printer driver, but not both.
