Congratulations
I would like to congratulate one of my fellow Ohio notaries! Roger Rill! Roger was elected President today of the new Ohio Society of Notaries! We had our first board meeting and it was a great success! Roger has worked very hard to bring this much needed group to Ohio and I am proud to be a board member with you Roger! Thank you so much! I wish you good luck and great success as this new group is launched!

Congrats to all of you who are starting this up. From what I've heard, Ohio really needs the input. I know you & Roger will bring a lot to the table. At least it's not the NNA agenda for a change.

State notary associations...
Thanks guys, this is something I've been working on a long time.
We do believe we'll be a catalyst for positive change for Ohio's 225,000 notaries, beginning with the reform of our antiquated notary laws. We'll also provide educational opportunities, an annual conference, and intend to discuss notary issues with the SOS candidates in the 2010 election. We've applied for non-profit organization status from the IRS, and have a motivated Board of Directors from around the state that shares the beliefs of our mission statement.
The PA Assn of Notaries is, I think, the oldest and most comprehensive of the state associations, and is very well managed. I know New Jersey has one as well. Some other states have notary referral networks, but I'm not sure how involved they are with their respective statehouses.
If anyone wants to get something started in their state, a look at our website will provide some basics. We're at www.ohionotaries.org

Your efforts are highly commendable. There's nothing
that can be said about your efforts except praise.
Roger, I have often said to people I work with in volunteerism that when a person hears themselves and others saying, "...someone oughta [various desirable actions]..." that the true leader will be that "someone" and do what oughta be done.
You get my vote for the "Notary Bell Peace Prize"!

Wow.... Ohio has the same # of notaries as California?
That's a stunning statistic to me!
Ohio has 11.5 million residents... California? About 37 million!

Marian...
Yeah, per the XYZ 2007 notary census, Ohio had 228,000 and CA 292,000. We Buckeyes are still well below:
Florida (436,000) Texas (398,000) New York (273,000) New Jersey (246,000)
Again 2007 figures.

Thanks......
Yeah, for CA the 2007 are way off. An earlier post we were talking about that. According to the brand new CA handbook, we have 225K in CA, way down.
I often feel like there are too many CA notaries... but in comparison or as a ratio, I guess I was wrong.

Kudos to you, Roger. Best wishes to you and your associates in this effort to promote a more qualified, professional notary community in Ohio. Perhaps more states will follow your path.
