Dear Signing Services....a small request
if you want to call me and contract my services for a signing, please don't allow your number to come through as "Private Number" or "Unavailable" - due to telemarketers who manage to still call despite the "Do Not Call" list, those calls are normally ignored.
Just got a call like that, didn't answer the first time, they hung up when it kicked to the answering machine - and immediately called again- I decided to answer and yes, it turned out to be a company wanting me to do a signing. Too far out of my service area to be considered - not like I like to turn down work...but...
Please Please Please...companies...identify yourselves...
Thank you..

No! Linda, You do NOT speak for all of us. I've been signing for 10 yrs (my 1st was with FASS in May of 2000). My basic fee is $75 for docs, e-docs is $35 plus added service fee, travel, large packets, RMs, fax backs etc. I have done some 30 for March (2 yrs ago it was 65). I really work for a few established escrow/title compaines, but have made some of my best relationships from "opps, just happen to get you calls". I welcome all calls. I get calls where the number is "unavailable", these go through "Privacy Director". It is often where the person is calling from an 800 number. One company that calls me (not notary work), their number only comes up when they aren't calling from their 800 number.

Re: I get calls from companies with 800 numbers
Hmm it is puzzling. I know when this person calls me from her 800 number it has to go through my "Privacy Director".

On the flip side...
Every time (except for tonight) that I've answered a call where the number is "Private" or "Unavailable" or "Not Enough Info" - it's someone hitting me up for money....so I ignore those....

Linda, consider yourself blessed. Somehow my cell number is published and republished in a spanish news publication classified ad seeking a dishwasher for a Thai restaurant - no address, just the phone number. I do see a number but cannot distinguish between a notary service call or someone inquiring about the dishwasher job.
It happens every four months or so. Uses up my anytime minutes.

To each his own, BUT , I find it amazing that those ,,
engagaged in a biz where virtually all business comes from unexpected phone calls to a published business phone , would refuse to answer a call, potenially offering income, because they are uncertain as to who is calling them. You should make it as easy as possible for those offering work to be able to reach you. If you get a call from someone who you do not wish to speak to , then just hang up. The only # that I publish is my cell phone. Many calls that I receive offering work are from unidentiifiable phone #s. I just answer and see who it is. It is tough enough to get good work these day. Why make it harder than it has to be.

I don't like it but I answer anyway. The reason I don't like it is because I don't have a callback number instantly embedded, I have to ask for it. I guess at this age I'm getting a little lazy.

As you said Bob...to each his own...
When 99 out of 100 unidentified calls are solicitations...I'll take my chances. The 1 out of 100 call (last night) which turned out to be for a signing they wouldn't pay my very reasonable out-of-county fee...
IMO good companies have no need to block their identity...
