Dropped package in wrong box

I had a big stack dropped off a package at fedex box that needed to go to ups. They had prepaid labels and me with the flu I mistook it.
So, now it is funding day and package cannot be traced. They asked me to go back and have them resign but, they are in a different state now vacationing.
I am a nervous wreck.
Has this happened to anyone? What do these carriers do with competitors packages?

well I guess it will depend on the driver, if he is nice he will forward it to UPS and there will be one day delay.
However if you can I would call Fedex and mention which box you dropped it in and see at what time the driver will be there for PKU and meet up with the driver, or see if someone from Fedex could warn the driver that will pku there and go get your stuff at the Fedex Hub.
Good luck

From what I'm reading it's already too late for that

"I had a big stack dropped off a package at fedex box that needed to go to ups....So, now it is funding day and package cannot be traced"

Apparently this happed several days ago - no sense in meeting the driver there now.

IMO looks like OP is on the hook to go back and resign the package unless FedEx can track where that particular box pickup went.

Another good reason not to use drop boxes - had this been taken to a shipper or manned facility the mistake would have been noticed immediately.

Good point, I never use drop boxes, I want a receipt!......you wouldn't believe what some people do to the contents of drop boxes here.

So what do you do when you have finished a signing, and there are still drop boxes that will be picking up, but the fed ex store fronts are all closed?

Re: From what I'm reading it's already too late for that

Depends on where I am....Kinkos (24 hour) or if in the other direction I use The Mailbox Store - the owner has installed a secure drop slot we can use to drop the package and it will go out the next morning - owner saves our receipts for us..

All else fails, I drop the next day at The Mailbox Store...but I never use boxes.

Kinko's here..also 24 hours....last pickup for FedEx here is 7:15 PM...although you can take it to the airport and catch them before the plane is loaded, that's 8 PM. Otherwise Kinko's for receipt or hold til AM. I do have signings as late as 11 PM, Yes I get extra.

was replying as of to where you can drop a Fedex 24/7 Smile ... now to my surprise I did find out that the Fedex where my office is located is not open 24/7 (just found that out) but the one is the small town where I actually live is! Go figure!

Re: Feel for you

I once dropped in the wrong box also and had enough time to contact the driver, drive to the main facility, retrieve package and get it correctly on its way. But, I was a nervous wreck; I feel for you.

Any loans that fund same day I take direct to fedex or ups for receipt those that don't go to drop box. I only use the same one all the time that way if lost and you need to track it you know where it was dropped. I had a package lost by ups long time ago with borrowers $20,000 check in it. UPS had record of picking it up but that's all folks. It dissapeared in thin air never to be found again.

I had that happen to me on a purchase almost had a nervous breakdown. Don't even think that a fedex driver will drop it in the right box he will take it back to the shipping point it will sit there until ups is called to pick up. You have to go to the fedex shipping station and talk to the manager. Do not call them they will not look. Call fedex ask what location the package would have been taken then go there.

Ali, did you call the Fed Ex hub nearest you? Maybe they have it there on the side and are waiting for you to come claim it.

Did you put the UPS envelope in the FedEx box, or did you put the UPS label onto the FedEx envelope, and drop it in the FedEx box?

If you simply put the UPS envelope in the FedEx box, then I would think that the driver would redeposit in the UPS box.

However, if the UPS label was accidentally put onto a FedEx envelope, then the package would likely get stuck back at the FedEx hub and as others have said, they have no urgency to get it corrected.

Well there is, obviously, nothing you can do know about it.

I have a hard time believing that the driver did not, simply, drop it in the other box????That seems really strange to me???

If the borrowers are gone to another state the hiring company will have to send another notary there. Nothing you can do now...mistakes happen that is part of life. Good thing we are not surgeons and life and death is the outcome!!!

Ilene was right in saying that you shouldn't trust what they say over the phone. I drove down to the Fedex shipping facility and my package was sitting on a counter.Probably had been there since last Friday.
Boy..will I be more careful
