Esign
How many of you are doing Esign loans? Do you charge extra for this, over and above your regular edoc signing fee?

I'm doing them. Fewer this year than 2009. Yes. I charge more than my regular fee. As a rule I use my own laptop and internet for these because I'm familiar with my equipment and I don't want any surprises when I arrive at the BO. In the past the following has happened at eSigns when I don't use my equipment:
1) Signing is conducted in BO's bedroom where the computer is located. I sat on a king-size bed next to the husband and wife. (It just didn't feel right, folks).
2) BO's internet service was dial-up.
3) BO's laptop refused to "talk to" the Gemstone website. Something about an outdated certificate.
That was just too much drama for me. Now I take my own equipment with me. No surprises.

Re: Esign - Michelle
I cannot imagine letting someone into my bedroom unexpectedly. That's where I keep my unmentionables (as well as some of my mentionables) and sometimes they escape from the drawer or closet and come out to taunt me by arranging themselves in disarray when I'm rushing around. Knowing my luck, THAT would be the scene I would encounter if I were to conduct a signing in a bedroom.

Two things I've learned! Adobe must be installed - doesn't work with any other PDF viewer - at least with Amstrust and you can not sign in from 11:30 PM CST to 5:00 AM CST. I had a late one Friday night that was delayed even more than originally planned and once we got through with the paper signing, tried at 11:30 on the dot to sign in and it gave us a message it was unavailable from this time.

Re: Esign - Brenda & Deb
@Brenda, my sentiments exactly. The bedroom wasn't wasn't....how should I put this...ready for company either. But we had to get it 'er done.
@Deb, I did not know about the site being down at 11:30 pm - 5AM. While I try to be at home in bed at that time, you just never know. Wow! You had a late night!! Hope you rested Saturday.

I did one for Gemstone/Amtrust, and vowed "never again" unless the process improved to the extent I could download the e-sign dox on my laptop, have the borrowers sign using a signature pad, and upload when I returned home. I passed that suggestion onto Gemstone, and was told it would be taken "under consideration by 'the powers to be'". Obviously, my recommendation was not accepted ... as is too often the case for me. In any case, the cost of an air card and additional subscription charge as well as the replies above confirm I'll just have to continue waiting.

Thank you John, that is very helpful, I too wonder about the added expense. I did one for Gemstone Amtrust a couple of weeks ago and one for Flagstar this weekend. It seems the signing agencies don't want to pay us extra for offering this service, yet again we are to absorb the extra expenses and we are offered lower and lower fees.

Yes, I do e-signs and do charge over my regular edoc fee. Like Michelle, I use my own equipment and avoid equipment problems.
The very first one I did a few years ago was supposed to be on borrowers computer. I was assured everything was a go as bwr and wife are both doctors and know what they're doing --- NOT! I get there and their computer hadn't been updated since purchase. Tried updating. Still would not communicate with Amtrust Gemstone. Luckily, as it was my first e-sign, I had printed all docs just in case. This took place on a Saturday. Amtrust is closed weekends. No help there. Called hiring entity and got approval to proceed with paper docs.
Was supposed to do one yesterday. Received confirmation late Friday night. Title failed to provide login and password and mine had expired as I hadn't used in several months. Again, no help on weekends at Amtrust. It's been re-scheduled for tomorrow when Title will provide access.
Seems my e-sign problems have been with Amtrust Gemstone ... hmmmm ......
All others have gone smoothly with no hitch whatsoever.

We do take Esigns from Amtrust, all we can get. The first one I did with Amtrust was rough due to the fact that we were told that the borrower had a computer and DSL. After that fiasco (see previous comments about the bedroom etc.) we vowed to use our own laptop and air card.
We use the air card on our PC's at home also. They work perfectly, never had a problem and rather than having the cost of internet service at home plus an air card for Esignings, we only pay the one fee monthly which is about $60 a month.
We charge the same as any other signing and always connect to Amtrust prior to going to the signing to make sure we can login, access the documents and generally make sure everything is in working order now. The signings go very quickly and we enjoy the process. However, my husband and I work together as a team so it does make the process easier than if we were doing it alone.
I had a signing recently with another company and it was awful! Lots of documents to print and still a ton of documents online. Very slow to load and the signing took over 1 1/2 hours. instead of about 40 minutes.

I have not gotten a significant # of these, as was earlier anticipated. The Amtrust are a breeze compared to the Fiserv platform. I did one on the Fiserv platform recently, and will not do any more. It was a long & complicated process. We already had the paper docs signed, but had to wade through those again on the website. It was much too time-consuming & tedious. IMO what seems genius at the creation level doesn't necessarily work out all that well in the field. That's just my .02 on the issue. I know some notaries who love to do them & would be glad to do e-signs all day long.

I have the whole shabang it doesn't pay for itself. Not enough work to cover monthly expenses. I use my aircard and laptop for mobile office. That pays for itself and my peace of mind.

Thank you for your reply. I apologize in my wording of the questions about Esignings. It seems you were the only one who understood I was curious how other notaries are handling Esigns these days. I wasn't looking for people to offer to do Esigns. I am a NSA just starting to do Esigns.
