Notary Renewal

Can someone tell me what I will have to do if I don't receive my packet from the SOS before my commission expires? I have taken the required course and the state exam and I am waiting on my test results (16 business days today). Unfortunately I didn't start the process as early as I needed to.

I don't think there's anything you can do but sit and wait. You may be waiting for a while. Here in AZ you can pay an extra $25 to expedite your commission.

There isn't much you can do until you receive your new commission. If you're renewing, of course use your present commission until it expires and you receive your new one.

From what I have read on the forum, it is a 3-4 month process. You'll still have to get your bond and FP taken but won't be able to do that until you receive the packet. In the meantime, you'll just have to sit and wait or call the SOS and try to speed things along, but because of all the cutbacks in the state, the process has become extremely slow again. When I renewed last January, it only took one month for the entire process, I guess I just got lucky.

I think Joan Bergstrom posted about this a little

bit ago - I think she said CA is 4 months out on renewals...as Shoshana said, there's not much you CAN do but submit your paperwork and wait. Also, even if you submit your paperwork far enough in advance, it's my understanding they won't send your new commission until you're close to your expiration date.

Good Luck.

Re: Thanks

You can call/email the SOS office for a status check on your application. I don't recommend doing it on Friday's. Good luck.

btw: I tested in Oct 10, 2009 rec'd new commission Jan 2, 2010 two weeks after my commission expired.

It's recommended to take the exam six months before the commission expires.
