I work for the Census Bureau. Everyone at our office genially cares about doing the best job we can to "count everyone." We have to deal with the repercussions of someone trying to use the Census to scam people. All Census Employees will have a Badge and usually a Census canvass attaché. They will never ask for someones social security #, Drivers License # or credit card #. A little background: I saw a post on NR that the Census was hiring and applied. I am the Assistant Manager of Field Operations for Southern Indiana. I have been working since Oct 08 (An Early open office.). I currently have 3 operations running and am in the process of hiring 1300 enumerators for the granddaddy of all the projects " Non Response Follow-up. FYI: If you do NOT return your Census Questionnaire I will be sending someone to your house. It's only 10 questions! It is unbelievable the amount of resources required to conduct the Decennial Census. I was a full time signing agent but when the business started slowing down I felt the need to supplement my Notary Signing business. Even with the learning curve of "working for the Govt. " it has been a fun experience. PLEASE return your Census Questionnaire. For every 1% increase in the mail back rate, it saves the Govt. about 18 million dollars. Spread the word.

As long as I don't have to fill out 28 pages of personal info (when, where & what make of refrigarator I have, etc) I'll be more than happy to comply, otherwise they can pay me a visit like last time.
Dennis maybe you can answer this question. Since this is a United States of America census form, why is the only race not listed on the form American? My family has been in this country since 1764 (before we were a country), but I couldn't say that my race was American the last time, the census worker said it wasn't on the form. So I told him that I was from the Human race and that was on the form, go figure?

Simple. "American" is a nationality, not a race. And true "Americans" come in all races, regardless of how long they have been here or how they arrived. (Legally, I'm assuming - don't want to get off on that topic..! )

Your right, meant nationality. "And true "Americans" come in all races, ..." but so do the British, Italians, Spanish, Greek etc. but they refer to themselves as such and our cenus refers to them as such. It would appear that the only nationality not on the US census form is American. There are many family lines in this country dating back prior to the Revolutionary War, so the choice should be on our census form since we've been a country for over 2 centuries.

Interesting point. I haven't seen the census forms and don't recall being asked about prior nationality in the past. That would be a challenge for me, too, since my grandparents were all from different places.
