This is a primary reason NOT to use Internet Explorer
Microsoft is often the target of malicious software and virus attacks because of its wide usage. Especial Internet Explorer (or as I like to call it, Internet Exploder).
There are a bunch of alternatives to IE, and most of them are free, usually work better/faster and not so prone to attack. The biggest Windows based browser is FireFox. Many of the items that were developed by the FireFox developers have been included in the new versions of IE. (Imitation is the highest form of flattery.) Other browsers include Chrome, Opera, SeaMonkey, Safari and Netscape. (There are quite a few others too.) The latest one receiving a very close look, is the Chinese reincarnation of MyIE2 called Maxthon version 2.

Re: This is a primary reason NOT to use Internet Explorer
I have been Maxthon since 2002 - wasn't aware it was "Chinese".
I know it was bought out about three years ago.
I use Firefox on my laptop. The only time I use Microsoft IE is when a site or program forces me to use it. Agree with you though.

Re: This is a primary reason NOT to use Internet Explorer
From the Maxthon website, product history ...
"The original version of what is today Maxthon was created in China by a man named Changyou, who wanted to customize Internet Explorer. Changyou routinely posted his code on his BBS for others to develop. He left the code posed when he left abruptly for five years, some say because of political differences. Jeff Chen, then a software engineer in Singapore six years out of college, noticed the code lying untouched and began expanding it. For a long time, the browser continued under its original name, MyIE. But in 2003, Chen, realizing that most of the program was made up of code he had written, decided to change the name to Maxthon."

Re: Maxthon
Thanks for the enlightment.
My son (an IT guru) introduced me to it because of my hatred for IE. I do a lot of genealogy research and the features of Maxthon are great for that.
Sorry for hijacking the original thread.
