iPhone & Credit Cards? Oh my!

I was just on facebook and saw the following ad:

"Get a free credit card reader and iPhone app from the payment leader VeriFone.
Save up to 30% off on transaction fees".

I don't know if it's legit or not but it sure sounds good. I'm a BlackBerry Storm user myself and I'm not ready to make the switch yet. But this is a feature that I'll definitely want to have available to me in the next 2 years.

Technology is on fast forward. It can be expensive to stay current. But I refuse to be on "pause". I won't and don't go for every new fangled thing that comes out but I don't ignore them either.

Be very afraid of ads you see on Facebook...

Many have very little to do with the product they're actually selling...

That being said - why do you think you'll need a credit card reader??

Re: Be very afraid of ads you see on Facebook...

Mike, I have more than one business. In addition, my notary work encompasses more than loan signing. I'm asked to accept credit cards from time-to-time. Currently, I'm using Paypal to accept credit card transactions. I'm anticipating "swiping" may be convenient for me in the future.

You're right about Facebook ads being questionable. However, I recently received a coupon to advertise on that site for a nominal cost.

I use Google to accept credit cards.

They seem to be cheaper and in my mind a bit more reliable and trustworthy compared to paypal.

It is my belief the verifone is similar to Paypal.
30% off whoses' transactions fees?
finally, you can use CC without the card being read so if course it free.

Now, I have a friend who owns a retail store. The called me when they had a problem because their CC reader wasn't working. When I got there the CC reader did not attach directly to the telephone jack but rather a vendor unit (verifone) and then into the wall jack. We removed the unit, all was well but on CC reader. So, tried to refer problem to verifone, they wouldn't come out to fix. Hope this info helps.

I know of a credit card company that is really good. The fee is only $7.95 a month and the transaction fees are upon running each transaction, are 2.09% of the sale and .25 cents. The first month is free and when you run the transaction your money is in your bank account the following day (that is if the transaction is done before the bank closes). Transactions can be completed on the website, your Blackberry or you can have a virtual terminal. If anyone is interested PM me.

Jessie, those are very good fees.

I did my share of research on this subject and was shocked at the number of hidden costs associated with accepting credit cards. I'm happy for now but when I'm ready to make a change I will contact you.
