waiting for docs.....
Here I sit waiting for loan docs for a signing at a real estate office for 5 p.m. Buyer/Borrower wants to know if he should leave his home 25 minutes away, I will call him when I am printing. I called SS and they just don't know when to expect the docs yet and have not had a response from title co. to their queries on docs. I also have another signing at 7 p.m. (have had those docs since early this a.m.) It is just so difficult to plan the schedule when this happens all too frequently lately. On top of that my docs for a 10:30 a.m. signing were over two hours late and then the borrower called the loan officer and spoke back and forth and ended up not signing after I made the 20 mile trip to home. Could not blame the borrower as he thought he had a loan modification not a re-finance! Not the best of days and really not asking for any advice, just commiseration........

Me, too... and it's FedEX's fault! I was supposed to get a pkg yesterday, didn't show. FedEx guy was here this morning with another package... just not the one I needed yesterday.
Come to find out that the genius delivery driver seemed to think that my address was a vacant lot. Nope.. the address is correct --- a house and a neighborhood that's been here since the 1950's...
FedEX doesn't double check with PS or at the very least GoogleMaps before tossing it back??
Morons. And so... I wait. And I'm told, "It will be there by 3pm." Which, is FedEx speak for 7pm.
Ideally, I have to go get these signed and get them BACK to the FedEx office by the 4:00 cutoff? Not gonna happen.

Thanks for commiserating.... In my case I am waiting for e mail docs. I hardly ever get overnight docs anymore, everything is last minute. This is when I make myself think of all the positive aspects of our profession, of which there are many. Let's hope we both get what we are waiting for soon!!!!!

We have had this happen so often lately that if I have a subsequent signing I call the borrower and explain I don't have docs yet and probably will not get them in time for their appointment and try to reset the appointment for much later in the day or evening.. It just never seems to pay to wait around for docs that are going to mess up your whole schedule.
In the days when we were doing 8, 9 or 10 a day one late package could make a mess of your whole day. We are not so busy now but still do not wait around for documents that may or may not come. And how many times have we all heard at the last minute that the lender cannot get the docs out today? Common courtesy and respect is expected but not often given.

I had a signing scheduled for 9:00am. SS told me that the docs would come yesterday. Of course they didn't. I started looking for the docs at 7 this morning and, as of 12:30pm the docs still had not come. I emailed the SS that I needed the docs by 1:30 or I might not be able to perform the signing today. SS told me to take the signing off my schedule. Said that title had still not responded to his e mails starting at 8 this morning. I am moving on to my 5pm signing. Very, Very frustrating. Erwin

Wish I could re-schedule
This signing has to happen as soon as docs are ready. They will just assign someone else if I cannot manage it then. The realtor is already upset at this turn of events and will not want to wait even longer. I have 30 more minutes and then I have to turn it back. What looked like a profitable day, has not turned out to be so......

They will not reschedule no matter that you have no fault in it?

<<<doing 8, 9 or 10 a day one late package could make a mess of your whole day.>>>
I find that even while I am doing less than that now, late docs STILL make a mess of my day. I give them a 2 hour cutoff time, and if that doesn't happen, they will be seen when I can get there. Not brws fault, but not ours, either.

Re: waiting for docs..... not the only one
Have a closing at 6 and it is 5:30 .... got the docs around 4.15 (fine so far), after I am done printing the first set I get a call that the numbers are wrong, that they are re-working them and well they should be here in about 10 to 20 minutes, than I have to print ... hit the road and let the nice borrower know that his scheduled pmt went up

My last Countrywide (I mean BofA) loan yesterday was the same way. My signing yesterday was originally set for 4pm didn't get docs in until 7pm. I didn't realize it was a BofA loan until around 5pm. Finally got to borrower's home only to no-sign because the numbers were not the same as the LO had confirmed with them earlier in the day. The LO was not returning calls from his cell phone, no after hours number to contact anyone (only voice mails on daytime office phones).
I stopped accepting Countrywide closings 3 years ago because 96% of the ones I had accepted were either late docs or incorrect docs.
The biggest issue in that case was not the late docs (although that is a big one) but that the LO wouldn't return calls or answer his cell. These LO's that don't show any respect to their customers or even the slightest concern for their own paychecks amaze me.

Do you give a deadline for receipt of docs when you are hired? Or do you just allow them to dangle you all day and wreck your schedule? Title companies will happily dangle you and waste all your time, if you allow it. Give a deadline and if they can't get docs to you by 3 hours before the signings, move on to your next job. Believe me, if you give them a deadline, they can get the docs to you.

The SS's are as frustrated as we are.
I usually do tell the powers that be that I need docs by such and such a time. But the SS is really at the mercy of the title company or lender just as we are. They get just as frustrated as we do when they cannot get docs or answers.
I will stick to my policy which is if I do not have the docs on time and I start getting the "it will only be a few minutes more" run around, I will keep any appointments I have and reset the appointment for later and after I actually get the documents.
My attitude is that I would rather service the people who have NOT held me up, ignored my plea for docs or have lied to me. Those are the clients that are worth servicing and they deserve my best performance. If I lose the signing it stings but .........oh well!

At least mine turned out well....
The package actually arrived at 2:30! I'm shocked! This time it was my regular driver apologizing for the new guy.
Did you know that FedEX drivers are not given GPS or any other technology for their deliveries? Mapquest or Google maps would have solved the problem with a simple phone in to the office.
SO instead we get this:
Driver, "Uhhhhhh, this looks like a vacant lot. It's a bad address."
The next day the package is handled as an exception, extra time and manpower, plus fuel is sued to correct doofus noob's mistake. Not to mention FedEx is going to have to issue a refund, too.
When, in reality it could have been handled like this:
Driver calling in to his supervisor, "Uhhhhhh, this looks like a vacant lot. Is it a bad address?"
Supervisor, "Let my pull up Google Maps. No, it's a good address, you're in the wrong place. That street curves around... go around the corner"
"Oh, duh. Thanks."
How hard is that???? Better yet... pull up a GPS app on your cell phone and plug in the freaking address!

Also....
I always stick to my drop dead time! In this case... it didn't matter, there was no drop dead time because the service isn't a hand holding penny pinching type. They actually treat their notaries likes adults and let them make the appointment only after docs have arrived. What a concept, huh?
But for the others... drop dead time or either start charging extra and/or turn it back. They know it well in advance, and I've never had a problem. If the services started firing their clients for late docs, the TCs would get the hint. There is NO excuse for last-minute docs....well, very rarely. Certainly not the norm it is now. TC employees are just getting lazy.

Do you know what your post sounds like?
The package actually arrived at 2:30! I'm shocked! This time it was my regular notary apologizing for the new notary.
Did you know that new Notary drivers are not given GPS or any other technology for their deliveries? Mapquest or Google maps would have solved the problem with a simple phone in to the office.
SO instead we get this:
New notary Driver, "Uhhhhhh, this looks like a vacant lot. It's a bad address."
The next day the package is handled as an exception, by an experienced notary, extra time and manpower, plus fuel is sued to correct doofus noob's mistake. Not to mention New Notary going to have to issue take a dedfuction from the SS.
When, in reality it could have been handled like this:
SS/TC calling in to his Experienced Notary, "Uhhhhhh, this looks like a vacant lot. Is it a bad address?"
Experienced Notary, "Let my pull up Google Maps. No, it's a good address, you're in the wrong place. That street curves around... go around the corner"
"Oh, duh. Thanks." Will you please do this for us and just get it right?"
How hard is that???? Better yet... pull up a Experienced Notary to start with and s/he will plug in the freaking address!
