Apostille question on school records...

I received a call from a lady in Mexico that needs her son's school records to be notarized and then take the notarized document to the county clerk for certification and then finally to Sacramento for the Apostille. Does anybody knows if I can notarize the school's records or it has to be done by some notary from the school? I will be doing the paper work for the Apostille by mail and then mail them to Mexico once SOS returns the doc.

Thanks for your help.

First question to ask yourself, "What is it that I am notarizing?" If it is not a siganture of the person standing in front of you, you can't notarize.

Notarize sigantures, not documents.

The one's I have done have a seal from the custodian of records at the school, and their signature. I just do the running around to get the apostille. (it helps that I am in the greater Sacramento area)

PM me if I can help in any way

Oh I know we just notarize signatures not documents but since this is my first, so per your response I will be notarizing the custodian of records signature at the school. I thought that they had their own notary for this type of notarization. Thanks.
