DMV titles for VA
I received a call to notarize two DMV titles. As I have never done this before and is a little skeptical since I can't check to see if it is a clean title with no liens. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this for me or lead me in the right direction.

It's not your job to make sure the title is clear,
all you are doing is witnessing the signature(s) of the person(s) signing the title.

Re: It's not your job to make sure the title is clear,
Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I would not be held liable. I was told that in VA if they are trying to transfer the title to someone else to refer them to DMV. Is this correct?

As far as I know, they will still need to go to the DMV to get new registration & title. They will need the form notarized in order to do that.

I don't believe anything requires notarization in VA when you transfer title to another person. I recently checked it out because I just sold a car two weeks ago.

Sometimes I will get a private party request to notarize signatures on a bill of sale for a vehicle, but I don't believe that's a requirement in VA.

Sorry, my bad. I looked at a VA Certificate of Title to MV,
and there is no place for notarizations. It must have been another state I was thinking of.

you're thinking of maryland, MW
both signatures on a bill of sale in maryland must be notarized if the car is less than 7 years old AND is being sold below book value. i have done quite of few of these probably due to the economy and folks trying to manage their credit score.
