Dropping packages after a purchase closing
I do not know if all notaries know this, but you should always drop a package after a purchase closing. The closing needs to fund to the next day.

Most of the purchase closings I do require funding docs to be faxed (or scanned and emailed) from the closing table. A few companies will not fund until they have the signed originals in their hands, so these do not require faxing.

Quite often, funding is SAME day as the closing. Many lenders will fund on signed & faxed documents. Those that do will request at least the funding documentation to be faxed from the table or within a very short time after closing.
Often, the buyers are told when things will fund and when keys will be available. Sometimes, it is days after closing, so there's no real rush (over and above the same day/next day drop depending on closing times and pick-up times).

It is always important for packages for purchases to be dropped the same day. Especially REO purchases. Seller will not release keys with out funds. You would be surprised how many signing agents don't drop packages that are purchases because they think they have 3 days. As a seller would like to wait for your money because someone didn't drop the package.

Huh?!?!
You said, "You would be surprised how many signing agents don't drop packages that are purchases because they think they have 3 days." Yes, I would be very surprised! I simply can't imagine ANY signing agent sitting on completed dox ... purchase or otherwise ... past the next courier pickup, let alone three days.

Most purchases fund same day...and therefore require faxed docs, as Teresa stated. But to clarify, ALL closing packages, not just purchases, should be dropped immediately after signing or as soon thereafter as possible unless instructed otherwise (i.e. fax back docs and wait for approval).

I did one yesterday. Borrowers told me lender informed them loan will fund after they received confirmation signing completed and Docs shipped. This was a first for me but I said okay, went to the shipping center and got a receipt and sent confirmation to all parties via shipping email notifications site!

I always ship all packages as soon as possible, but for purchases there are a few extra things in play regarding urgency.
I have an occasional client who pays extremely well for its purchase closings. Extremely well. As such, they expect a higher level of service and I provide that. If that closing is at 6 PM, then I make absotively posolutely sure that I get that package shipped same day. I will check out ahead of time on FedEx.com or UPS.com where is the nearest drop box/store to the closing location where I can take the package for same day shipping. If I have to go out of my way, then I go out of my way. I've even driven to the airport to get the package out at 10 PM via FedEx.
On the other hand, for those companies that want to pay $125 or less for purchase closings (I don't take less than $125 for buyer-only purchase closings, but I know that some other notaries do), I will ship docs the same day if at ALL possible, but it will be though my local shipping locations and I will not be driving 20 miles out of my way or to the airport to get that package shipped out same day. Those closings must occur early enough in the day so that local shipment deadlines can be met.
I am happy to fax anything they need from the closing table, as these appointments usually occur at the realtor's office.

The nearest FedEx Office facility is open until 11pm, though the last drop off for next day shipment delivery is at 5pm. For evening signings, knowing that the package won't go out until the next day to arrive the day after, I will still drop package off at their facility that night before they close at 11pm. I won't wait until the next morning to take package in. I get the docs out of my hands as soon as possible.
