Middle Tennessee
I have been very slow in the Cookeville Tennessee area this year. Can anyone tell me why other than some notaries are doing everything CHEAP just to get the business. Any Comments?

If I were you I would ask that question of the Title and
Signing companies that I used to get work from. I hope my response doesn't sound sarcastic because I don't mean for it to. I honestly believe that they are better suited to explain to you why they have not sent you as much business this year. The rest of us can only speculate and you want facts.
I would call the scheduler and ask, "I noticed I've only performed one closing for you this year. Last year I was averging one a week. Are you getting fewer closings in my area?"
You can approach this in a variety of ways but what you really want to find out is if you're losing business to another notary, and if you are why? Be and sound positive and not accusatory.
That's my two cents.

Excellent suggestion, Michelle. While it is true that there has been a major slowdown in many areas, it doesn't hurt to call your "regulars" and touch base.

Very well said, Michelle
The key here is to remain professional. If the push back from the scheduler is that your fees are too high, then you know you're up against one or more low-ballers. At that point, a little marketing is in order - emphasize your experience, ask if they are happy with the work they're getting from those charging a lower fee, etc. Sometimes all you have to do is plant the seed in their minds...

Just by asking I found out that a document closing escrow officer didn't like the way I signed my name on Acknowledgments and requested I not be used. I wish I had the opportunity to tell my mom that!

I don't understand - you sign your name the same way it's on file with the SOS, right? So this escrow officer's problem is what, exactly? He or she used to be a school teacher and has a penmanship fetish?

you nailed it Mike. When the SS told me he was getting pushback by using me I told him, "hey, forget her...don't use me then, let's stay human about this."
Quality of work okay but signature not desirable...give me a break.
