NASA
Sylvia and I have been exchanging PM's on the subject, which brought back good memories of Susan and Scott Pense ... and that many of us helped contribute towards Scott's significant medical expenses. I wonder if, at the end of the day, this was the reason they had to "sell out" to NNA?
Ah, yes, those were the days when the designation, "Certified Signing Agent (CSA)" had a certain cache ... not the current commodity that NNA has created. In order to earn your CSA back then, you had to have at least a year in the trenches (as I recall), and completed a number signing engagements (100, I believe). And the test: answered solely on the basis of experience and first-hand knowledge ... not with a handbook in one hand and computer mouse in the other, as is case nowadays.
This also got me to thinking: How many of us here today are alumni of NASA?

but life DOES go on...I remember the following people:
Kathy Poston Sylvia Dennis Sue/PA Tula/MI Mike Cooper/TN Joe Ewing/CA Janet Lynch--a lot of respect for her!!! Teri/Pa Deb/CO Maureen/NH -my first time "meeting" a justice of the peace and who could forget Suzanne Neely from NV???? Victoria Rivera aka without predjudice jamie jessup
I never heard of "the Organization" and could not figure out why so many were enticed by them.

Re: I am an NASA alumni nice blast from the past
I too am an alumni, although I was only a member for a short time when they sold to the NNA. All of those names brought back memories and in the case of JJ mostly not so good ones. I am however thankful for a number of posts he made on how to efficiently conduct a signing. (one of which was learning to read upside down. Wish I could still do it, but my eyesight is not what it was 8 years ago. There was nothing I did that impressed the borrowers any more than reading and pointing out the information on their docs upside down.) Some of those were real pearls, so I do owe him at least a small debt of gratitude (many of you may not agree, but in my case is was a big help)

Hey, Julie, what am I, chopped liver?? and don't
forget the best name on NASA, Peaches Veech. I am still proud on my NASA CSA designation. In all group modesty, many of the current "proper" NSA proceedures were originally developed via discussions on the NASA board I still have my copy of Victoria Rivera's Just Point and Sign" As I recall , Victoria was the first (and as I recall only) NASA "Notary Of The Year" honoree. The sale to NNA, occured the following year, and Susan was designated as the NNA Notary Of The Year, for that year. As I understand it the Pense's health issues were the percipitating cause of the sale.

From a quick look at their website, I would say, useless.
Also you should not be posing links on NOTROT to rival sites.

I didn't know they were an NR rival.
I don't really know anything about them - I thought it was the equivalent of former NASA.

NR rival/ Equivalent to former NASA? Not a chance!
Here's a sampling from their "Notary Talk" board. General: "Play free Jackpot USA", ".... Dependable sex." Signing Agent Questions: "Honda FCX World Green Car" How can I earn notary $$$ now?: "buying viagra in austrailia ... no prescrition...." Tips and Tricks: "Kim Kardashian Sex Tape Info"
Not a single listing for Florida or Connecticut to "Find a Notary". No surprise.
Robert, you said: "I don't really know anything about them." How come you didn't take a look first, before asking about them? Had you done so, you would have soon found out they're certainly not in the same league as other professional organizations like NR, et.al.

Re: I didn't know they were an NR rival.
However as NASA is no longer in existence (other than the Space Administration of course) it is not a rival to NR.

The absorption of NASA by the NNA is what prompted Kathy Poston to start the Signing Registry. The skill exam offered by the SR is a test of knowledge developed in the field. Not necessarily by signing agents, though the thrust is in that direction, but seasoned loan officers and many title officers can usually pass the exam. New comers to the community have a very difficult time passing it, even with the NNA's book and/or the excellent training guide that Kathy authored and/or any other SA instructional book.
