e-signings

hi, been getting calls recently for e-signings. Does anyone do them. IF so, it is worth it? What are the typical fees? Any higher than paper signigs?

I've had equipment for e-signs for years and no it doesn't come close to paying for itself unless you have a company that concentrates on them. Figure out the cost each month and what you need to be in black.
I use my equipment for mobile office now that is worth the investment.

I have done approx. 107 e-signings between AmTrust and Flagstar now and the pay is typically $100.00 to $125.00 per signing. They take about as long as all paper but the printing is very minimal. I would be paying for an aircard for my personal use of my laptop anyway and by doing these signings, it allows for business that I would not have had otherwise. Any signing being E-sign or paper as long as I can get $100.00 plus is worth my time because this is my career. Hope this helps! Smile Jenifer

Ask your current cell phone provider first and you can sometimes get a deal with the plan you already carry so as to keep costs low. I have sprint and to add the aircard only cost me an extra $10.00 a month because I was able to change my phone plan (making that cheaper) but typically an aircard will run $50 to $60 a month.

Depends on how much airtime you purchase, in Maryland the unlimited is about $80.00 per month and limited is $40.00.

There's no such thing as "unlimited" though... just be ware of that. "Unlimited" usually means 5GB a month transfer. Usually, i fyou go over that in any given month, they won't bother you about it... but if it becomes a habit, they will get you.

The good news is that 5GB is pretty hard to pass for most people. Just don't use it for streaming a lot of videos or transferring large files, and you'll be fine.

You don'y always need an aircard...

If you have a smartphone with data services, you might be able to tether your phone so that your laptop uses that data connection. That's what I do with my Blackberry.

What software do you use to tether the Blackberry? Do you also need a cable, or can it be a Bluetooth connection?

Re: You don'y always need an aircard...

I have a smartphone, with VZW, CA. I can tether my phone to my laptop thus using the phone as a modem however it is an additional $30 per month for 5GB. That is on top of the $29.99 per month data pkg that you have to have if you have a PDA/Smartphone. I was told by the rep I can activate the VZ Access manager to do the tethering just before I need it and cxl when done and I will only be charged for what I used and not the full $30. I haven't tried that yet. My concern is what if the signal isn't strong enough and I can't use my laptop??? Then I'm out there an stuck and no one at VZW can tell me exactly what 5GB's looks like so I can be sure I am not exceeding the usage and hit with a large unexpected bill. I rarely get calls for this so I'm not losing jobs yet but would like to sort it out now so if this area picks up for me I'm ready to take advantage of it.

I have a metropcs windows mobile smartphone and use it all the time with the tethering feature for e-signs. It's unlimited data usage but it's not 3G. At times it's painfully slow, but for e-signs, it gets the job done.

We use the air card in our home office

We have done a lot of E-signings over the past few years, primarily with AmTrust. Once you get into a groove with them they do go very quickly and even though there are a number of documents to print, you can put all of the borrowers copies on a CD and therefore save printing costs. There are a couple of other companies who are doing E-signings and they take forever to complete.

We have 2 PCs and we use a laptop with large monitor for one of our work stations. We use a Sprint air card ($60 a month) for both home use and to take with us for Esignings. We do not pay for any other type of internet service and find that the card gives us very fast internet service. Since we use the card 24/7 we have never had to pay anything other than the monthly fee of $60 a month.

If you have to go out and purchase a new laptop and air card just for E-signings the chances are you will not make enough money to cover your initial costs and taking E-signings would probably end up costing you money. It is not like you get 5 or 10 of these a month. I have not talked with anyone yet who does more than a few a month, if they are lucky.

I do e-signings and I like them. I already had a laptop and aircard, so for me it was no new expense. What I have found is that many borrowers prefer to do the signings on their own computer (if they have high speed access it is possible). Many folks are concerned about identity theft and rightly so. I sometimes ask when confirming if they would like to do the signing on their home computer and that we can save the docs directly to their computer, or I can save to disc/email the file if I do it on my laptop.

That being said, I always bring my laptop along just in case. You never know, someone may think they have high speed, when in reality it is a dial up connection!
