A few suggestions for working with unknown companies...

Johnathan & nunu, I have a few suggestions that might help.

I would suggest that IF you accept work from them that you make sure you have as much info on the company (or person if it is a sole proprietorship) as possible. Also make sure you have acceptance verification of YOUR payment and job terms terms PRIOR to printing any docs. If you expect payment Net 15 or 30 make sure the company agrees to payment being received WITHIN the specified time frames. If you charge late fees, include that information as well. If you have to file on them in order to receive past due payment you want to be able to show they knew of the additional charges. Personally, I send new companies an agreement with my terms and require them to sign and return to me prior to printing anything. So far, I have had only one that I have had to file on that signed my agreement. I also had proof that they owed me a lot of past due charge payments that ended up being more than the job itself.

Check to see if there is a DBA on file for the company in the county they are located in. If so, you will have an address and full name(s) for your files.

For new companies I have also called the lender or company (when the jobs were for annuity settlement companies) and ask them for some information on the company. I have accepted jobs from some new companies that I was going to turn down after speaking with the originating company.

Once you have the contact info and as much info as possible, try to add the company to SC. Once they are added you can then rate them, link both of your posts to them and let others know what your experiences were dealing with them should you decide to accept work from them.

Not every new company is bad, not all or good either. If you don't like the information you are able to get on them and decide not to accept the jobs be sure to let us know why you didn't accept the jobs. If you like what you see, let us know that as well.

I hope some of this helps and Good luck!

I love this company. They have a branch in Dallas FW area, so I do ALOT of their deals but I invoice their main office in San Antonio. They pay precisely on time, whatever YOU bill they meet your fees (realistic fees that is). Its the best organized, they send appts via email and closing docs and the closes are a snap. Not long at all!
