Another Cheapo
Just had a call to do a closing 20 miles from me. They offered $90.00. I said I don't even do it for $90.00 in my own town. She asked me how much I would charge. I told her and she said they would never pay that. I told her "Oh, well". That's the way the cookie crumbles. I would rather sit home by my fireplace rather than work for Cheapo companys.

Hi DD Everyone has that right and you exercised yours. I often post about my own displeasure with low-ballers but I'm starting to re-think my position. Not because I'm not getting any work, I turn down more than I accept for other reasons, but because I realize I should be more flexible. So here is my thoughts on "Cheapos".
1. I would take this if the Docs where over-nighted to the borrower and I didn't have to ship them when completed. Why, because the borrower will usually have gone over the Docs and resolved any issues before I get there. I most likely wouldn't have to explain anything and would be in and out in 30 mins. Very easy money.
2. I would take it if it were a citimortgage because there's usually less the 80 pages.
3. I would take it if it was one borrower and of course, no hand holding, contracts or faxbacks.
In short, I think it is important to find out a little bit more about the offering before declining. My .02

Re: E-docs or overnighted???
Docs over nighted to the borrower...no printing. No shipping

Ha ha, no problem, I valued your answer to James. I do like
you do James, I have my fee but in certain circumstances, I am open to altering it a bit especially to my one client that has used me for years and I can count on at least 1 call a day from them. I will also consider lowering a bit under other circumstances like real close to my office, very small package, etc.

I like to use the phrase, ".....you don't get old being stupid.. ", You gotta be able to think outside the box also!

DD, more information please.
Name & location of company calling and a few more details about the job itself would be helpful.

IMO, it's great to say "no" to offers that are lower than
your fee. I don't necessarily think it's a good idea to get "snarky" about it. This is biz. There are a lot of companies offering $90 these days. The only way I take those is if it's a very small pkg. IMO it's another matter for companies offering $40, $50, $60--that's ridiculous.
