Atrip well worth it
I had a signing late yesterday afternoon and noticed that the title company who was getting the return package was only about 10 minutes from the BO home. I thought that maybe I could hand deliever the docs as it seemed silly to me to take them home, drop them at FedEx to have them brought back to nearly the same spot. Well, the rep did not have a problem with me doing that, especially since he would be there until 8. So I stopped by and was talking to him, and he asked where I was based and if I had time available. When I told him where I was located, he presented me with 2 additional signings, one with 2 complete sets of docs! Plus he met my fee on both. All in all a very productive extra trip.

Good deal, but I wonder--why didn't they just
have the borrower come to their office to do the closing? If local title companies send local notaries to do their closings, the 'happy endings' like this would probably happen more often.

Good things do happen when you go the extra 10 min!
I agree with Barb, it is always good to hear about good things!

I assume that your assignment did not come from a signing
service. If so, I do not believe that it would be correct to contact THEIR customer without their knowledge or consent. If you were hired by the title company, borrower, broker or lender, then it would, IMO, be ok.

Re: I assume that your assignment did not come from a signing
If he was hired by a SS and they find out he got two more jobs (reading NR of course) thereby eliminating paying the SS by TC, he is going to get his hands slapped specially if he signed one of "those" agreement! Otherwise, Hooray for him!

Even if OP did not "signed one of "those" agreement"
then I still think that it is wrong. If TC contacted him , it is one thing. Soliciting the TC for work, IMO is quite another.

Re: Even if OP did not "signed one of "those" agreement"
I did not sollict the TC for the assignments. I went into the office to drop the docs, and he asked if I would do them. I was hired by a SS, but I have spoken to the officers in this TC several times previously when I have had questions about the docs. I have mixed feelings about bypassing the SS since it is one of the good ones, but I did not want to pass up an assignment that was so close to home. And, no, I did not sign an agreement with the SS.

how is it 'solicitation'? OP went in to drop off the docs
as a convenience and favor for the TC, and because of the OP's noble deed, they got rewarded with more work.
Free and far from solicitation IMO.

I've done that as well. Had an evening signing and the TC was 8 minutes from work so sent an email suggesting I could drive the docs to them after work, the next day rather than ship them. TC was only too happy with that suggestion. Since I get off work usually at 1pm, that's what I did.
