Brother Drum Question

The light on my brother printer was blinking for a new drum. I ordered the drum and with the new drum came directions on how to reset the printer after installing the drum. But, I reset it before I installed it.........by accident. Then I thought to myself, lets see if it prints ok without the light coming on for the drum to be replaced. So far, everything seems to be ok. The light isnt coming back on. My question is, will this hurt anything if I dont replace the drum? It would be nice to get a few more miles out of the old drum if possible but at the same time, I dont want to damage anything by not replacing it if I should.

The Drum LED blinks if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.
This is from the Brother website:

The Drum LED continues to blink if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum follow the instructions below:
Press the cover release button and then open the front cover of the printer.

Press and hold down Go button until all 4 LEDs are lit. Once all 4 LEDs are lit, release the Go button.

Close the front cover.
Make sure that the Drum LED is now off.
CautionReset the drum counter only when you replaced the drum unit with a new one.

Note that is says to continue to use the drum until print quality suffers. I say keep on rolling. I reset the light 5 times on one drum before print quality suffered and I actually replaced it.

You can also do a system printout which will show the remaining copies left before drum replacement. If it shows a low number, it did not reset properly and you have to do it again. I took the drum out and reset it before replacing, and that did it.

Was your print quality suffering or

did you just replace the drum because the readout said it was time? In my experience, you can run them a long time before print quality suffers.

Re: Thanx Guys!!

I just wanted to make sure it wasnt going to hurt anything else if I didnt replace it. Good to know you can reset a couple times without any harm.

Again, thank you!!

I've found that cleaning the corona wire with every toner

cart. replacement really extends the life of the drum.

Brother Drum has moved to another church...

...However, his second cousin, Brother Cymbal, has been elected deacon to replace him and thus far is serving quite nicely, although he sometimes clashes with other members. I have to say that losing both Brother Drum and his wife, Sister Viola, to the Second Symphonic Missionary Baptist Church has been a blow to our small congregation. Though he was regularly beaten, Brother Drum continued to advocate measures that he thought would benefit the church, and Sister Viola contributed strings of things. Despite their loss, things are proceeding quite harmoniously so far.
