Can't Get Paid
Hi, I have only been in this business for a year and really enjoy this work. However, I have 2 companies that haven't paid me. Is there a list somewhere of companies not to deal with because they don't pay. I have been calling and emailing one since July and the other since Sept. I suspect the later one has gone under now because all the voice mail boxes for notary support are full. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if there is a place where folks post the "deadbeat" companies, I guess I should post these two? thanks!

Thanks! I will sign up! and I dis post a response to the other issue------ Oh, let me clarify. The law requires that an attorney be involved and of course I cannot take any monies. I don't do closings or settlements as my friends in VA do, I just notarize signatures for refi's--then they go to the lawyers or in some cases, an attorney has been on the phone. I also notarize POA's, vehicle/boat sales, etc. etc.

Check SC - but be careful what steps you take
DE being an attorney-only state, if you're not an attorney you may be asking for more trouble than that fee is worth...

You beat me to it, Linda. It amazes me how many notaries
are trying to work the NSA business in "attorney only" states.

I can't understand why you would have payment issues, then.
Wouldn't your services be paid by the attorney at the time of the signing?

Re: I can't understand why you would have payment issues, then.
Well, unlike my friends in Virginia, the attorney might be in Rhode Island on the phone, or CA on the phone or the docs are fed-Exed to the attorney. Again, I don't do closings or settlements. Not permitted in DE--and I have had to explain that to several companies. But I did get my question answered so thanks so much!

I get that. I'm just suggesting that if I was in DE & in
the situation where I was working under an attorney, I would insist that they be the one's to pay me. Maybe that's not how it works, but IMO that would be best & negate any liability issues of "doing signings".
