Genuine v. Refurb Products

I have been having a lot of issues w/the refurb drum units (and some toner) that I have been ordering. Orig from LD & now from the new place I ordered from. Thinking it may be time to suck it up & just order the genuine thing, at least the drum. Toners usually don't seem to be as much of an issue although they def do not last as long as the genuine product, however the cost is much lower so I don't mind that so much. Anyone else having these problems? I have a Brother HL 5250DN.

Dont buy the new toner from Brother, buy a brand new hl-5240 and just get the drum and put it in the hl-5250.

It's a lot cheaper that way.

I did that once a few years back - new printer cheaper than the parts -

Re: refurbished items

This is a good question..I am thinking about buying a portable printer on Ebay that has been refurbished. I am hesitant because it is refurbished. I would be getting it at 1/3 of the cost this way. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Re: refurbished items

I haven't had much luck with Ebay items, but never had a problem getting refurbished items from www.amatteroffax.com I got a refurbished Brother MFC8440 for less than $300.00 five years ago and it still works great and I have only done regular maintenance on the unit.

Re: refurbished items

I'm using a refurbished brother 5370, paid $149.99 from staples plus the $30 2 year warranty, works like a charm, better than brand new HP 3015 I bought. As far as drums and toners go, I use Swapink.com and AAAtoner.com, and even for generic toners, I've found they last just about as long as the genuine ones do, I've never had a problem. Thus my 2 cents.
