Has anyone noticed the increase use
of legal size paper in their business? Any ideas about the change?

Not sure what you mean here...this is nothing new...at least not for me...
Clarify maybe as I may be misunderstanding your post.

It's new for me. Prior to a several
months ago, a case of legal size paper would last a minimum of 2.5 months. This is no longer the case. No pun intended.

Re: Has anyone noticed the increase use? Yes ...
Very often the entire package was scanned for legal size paper, even tho many of the dox were obviously only letter-sized. Many times, instructions were to print on legal-size paper only. Could be the originator did not want to risk the dox that were intended to be printed on legals being shrunk/shrinked (sp??) to fit letter-size paper. Not an issue with me with a dual-tray printer.

I agree, John.
I seem to also be seeing more and more documents scanned incorrectly. I have definitely seen that increase. The one that gets me are the packages where we're warned about making sure the print is a certain font size (i.e. don't reduce a legal size page to letter size), when the docs are letter size scanned onto legal (sometimes more than once) before we even get them...
There are also the ones that are some weird, non-standard size page that my printer doesn't recognize, so it stops printing waiting for me to advise if I want to have it printed from a different paper tray. Gotta love that when you're in a hurry! And let's not forget the opposite of that where the bottom of the page is cut off in scanning.
A lot of that, though, I think may also be due to lower staffing levels and increased business. When people are in a hurry, this stuff is more likely to happen.

Yes ... but...
If you call, tell 'em you have a dual tray and ask, they will frequently say it's OK to print to size. It's just that they've had so many problems with the docs that they just default to 'print on legal'. After all, they aren't paying for the paper. Be aware, tho', that if the 'print to size' doesn't work right--it's on you!

"... where the bottom of the page is cut off in scanning."
Which could "win" you a quality issue if you're not careful. Almost happened to me on Friday where the bottom of the Escrow Instructions were cut off, and did not clearly show where the borrowers had to initial each page. I usually scroll through the entire package while it is being printed, and in this case, happened to see the actual bottom of the pages needed to be initialed.

Re: "... where the bottom of the page is cut off in scanning."
I've had that happen several times and had to go back and print those pages separately. Very annoying.
I've also had problems where legal size forms were *scanned* to letter size. Of course, it was on a last minute call so there was no time to get a corrected scan. I made sure to tell them in the closing confirmation that the client was not amused at getting a HUD-1 with teeny print and would be contacting them for a full size document.

Re: "... where the bottom of the page is cut off in scanning."
Fortunately, so far I've caught it by scanning through the package on-screen while printing and was able to reach someone to have them re-sent.
To Lee/AR's point about requesting all legal, I just let my printer pick the right page and it hasn't ever been a problem. But, yeah, we need to make sure there are no screw-ups!

I've noticed the opposite about paper size. Most of my pkgs lately have been letter size except for the HUD and 1003.
Really hate when legal size docs are shrunk. Response to my call is, "That's the way they were sent to us."
We should be paid for doing "quality control" on the pkgs. Seems there are many mistakes we get corrected before heading out to the borrower. Once I actually got a Thank You.

I almost always use letter size
for the borrower's copy. I put it in a manila folder for them and it fits in their drawer nicely.

Re: I almost always use letter size
What if you need to use one of the pages if a mistake is made? If the original is legal size, that could be an issue.

Re: I almost always use letter size
If its a minor error, i just have them cross out and initial. On the rare occasion that a page needs to be switched out, i just switch out the letter for the legal. Never had any complaints.
