Don't waste your time.
Turn it back unless you want to wait 2-3 months to get paid.

why why why didn't you use the Search button BEFORE
you agreed to do this closing? Had you done so, you would've read that the company has very bad reviews.
I just don't understand why many nsa's do not utilize SC....oh well....

Unless you have a crystal ball and can check out a company BEFORE they call you OR if you are at your computer all day then that's simply not feasible.

@mwm143 > some of us do take this profession seriously....
Some of the more serious nsa's do utilize SC more than others. And yep, I sure do sit at my desk, when I'm not closing on a loan, because being a nsa is my profession - my job, and that does require sitting at desk & computer, most of the time. I even use my laptop and smart phone while on the road.
I, unlike others, take this job seriously - serious enough that I keep my own database and hard copy list of companies that pay and are worth working for as well as those to avoid. I even have them listed in my smart phone. And when a company that I'm not familiar with calls me, I sure do look them up.
I use WHATEVER resources that are available to me to find out, before I take a job, if a company pays or is worth my time, since I prefer to make money than to pay for work. Shoot, if I could get my hands on a crystal ball, I'd use that too!
I DO NOT work for beer money nor do I work part-time.

Re: @mwm143 > some of us do take this profession seriously....
Cari,
My point is simply that your question to the original poster of "why, why, why... BEFORE" is somewhat assuming that everyone would have access to their computer at all times. Personally, I'm out most of the day performing closings for beer and other necessities. I generally do not accept signings from companies I am unfamiliar anymore so that's how I handle it. I get plenty of work from my regular clients.
Researching the company after you accept the closing and rescinding the order due to negative comments seems perfectly fine to me.
And by the way, what's wrong with any nsa who works part time in this business??

Actually it is ok with her as long as it is not in her area. Then it is just wrong!

Re: @mwm143 > some of us do take this profession seriously....
I keep an updated list from Signing Central in my schedule book so that if I am not at my computer I can look to see if they are listed and the rating. Asking a few questions of the unfamiliar company can give you an idea whether or not they are established.
Whether you work full time or part time has nothing to do with how professionally you handle your job. Many people have two jobs in order to make ends meet and just because one might be part time does not at all imply that they aren't serious about it.
Why the negative comments...and why the assumption that the poster doesn't take their job seriously?

If you haven't already preformed the job AND YOU don't feel
comfortable working for them based upon the information you have discovered, IMO, I would turn back the order with a short explanation as to why you will be unable to accept the order. I have had to do that with a few companies that call me and I am unable to immediately and/or fully investigate them. For the most part, as soon as I mention the low ratings and comments (usually no or very slow pay) on NotRot they realize that I am not going to accept the request. Are they happy about it? - NO. Is that my problem? - Only if I end up accepting the assignment, which I don't. So the answer, for me, is - No, again.
I emphasized the "YOU" because you, as the owner of your own business, must evaluate the risks involved and make the final decision for yourself. You may receive a request from a company that has has mixed ratings and comments. Sometimes the decision might not be as obvious as this one is. IMO, without full prepayment for a request from this company, I would not accept any assignments from them.
If one notices a negative (or positive) trend in comments on the board and/or in SC for a company, for the most part IMO, considering that most of us invoice at Net 30 on average, the comments/ratings for a job accepted today may look very similar in 45-60 days to the ones today.
If a company listed in SC does not seem to have recent ratings/comments and you cannot find recent posts regarding the company that answer your questions, then requesting information from others on recent interactions with the company is an excellent tool to aid one in their decision to accept or decline offers. After all, you are extending them credit and if you don't feel comfortable with doing so, don't do it.
As for me, if I turn back a signing from a new, or new to me, company based upon my investigation of the company, I am not concerned about any perceived "negative" repercussions from them. After all, as far as I am concerned as a business owner, what is more negative; me working for free or a company that seems to not pay signing agents as agreed telling me they will not be calling me again?
This type of situation is a great example of how useful a tool SC can be if we all remember to keep our comments updated on the companies we accept assignments from. <just a friendly and unsolicited PSA for SC and NotRot>
