Question

Does anyone have a really GOOD site for getting driving directions. I've always used MapQuest but lately it has been giving goofy directions.
Sooo if you have a good reliable site could you please post it before I wind-up in Alaska. lol

Appreciate your help and thank you in advance Smile

Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe out there.

If your county zoning dept is online you can go to their maps, I do that when mapquest lands me in the middle of nowhere.

I have found Google earth will give me info that neither my GPS or Iphone will....not to mention closes UPS or FedEx, gas stations (for pit stops), etc.

I use Google Maps (http://maps.google.com). Driving distances calculated are pretty accurate, at least here. For specific location of houses, I use the county appraisers websites to search for the property address. All counties in my area are using GIS Mapping, with bi-annual updates.

I use Google Maps that is very good. I use it especially for bike path directions since I'm on an electric bike.

I use Google maps. Also, especially when I know I'm going to be looking for a house in the dark, I go to the Satellite view and count the number of roofs between the corner and the house I'm going to. Of course, that only works in area like Colorado where the trees are shorter and most housing developments are not in heavily wooded areas. I haven't had any assignments in the mountains so I'm not sure how the Satellite view would work there.

I purchased a GPS last year and that's now my main tool, but I still look on Google and count the roofs. I've had the GPS take me to the wrong house before.

I find Google maps to be the most accurate, too, but still not infallible. The closer I get to my destination, the more likely it is to goof. Examples include leaving out a turn or having me go left instead of right. Occasionally, I'll run into a situation where there's a small section where a street is blocked off (with a meridian like divide in between) that it will miss, so I have to figure out a work-around on the fly.

I still always have a Thomas Guide map book in my car and it gets used often enough for the most commonly traveled areas to be more than a bit frayed. (May be time for a replacement.) However helpful all the other tools are, there's nothing like having an accurate street map to refer to as a back-up when push comes to shove.

There are certain areas that I go to the county site for. Even though the houses have been there awhile, they don't show up on mapquest or google.
What is helpful to me is having been a realtor and still knowing a lot of realtors in several counties around me.

I use MapQuest...have had decent luck

fall back on googlemaps if I'm not sure then go to the county assessor's office for the interactive map - and finally confirm they're all right with borrowers...Smile

Yahoo Maps 98 % of the time

Maybe I just don't know how to use Google Maps, but I just tried to do one that I traveled yesterday...and... nope... not even close. Street views do not work around here 75% of the time anyway. Still it will give you satellite, map or hybrid views.

But, what I like about Yahoo Maps is the customizing available.
1. I usually do the 'whole route' plus a very detailed 'end map'.
2. I can eliminate any unneeded directions (just shortens the print out).
3. Even eliminating some directions, I can have it also still 'show cumulative mileage'.
4. Tho' I rarely use this feature, you can get a detailed map of some complicated turn.
5 I find the mileage estimate to be right on the mark, but the time is usually a very little bit more than it actually takes me (no, I don't speed).
6 I really like the visual detailed enlarged 'end map'.

Once in a while, it just can't find some place, but will get me close. I usually map it before I make the confirming call to the B... and in the above-mentioned 'can't find it' situations, after speaking with B... oh, boy, is there ever a good reason!

I may have to go back and give them a try again. (Used to be my favorite.) They all do keep evolving.

I always use Yahoo Maps!! For the same reasons Lee stated. It's so much better than MapQuest. Only difference is the time is usually more than what it actually takes me.

Every time I use Google Maps, something is wrong. My best is MapQuest. If not on map yet, county offices online.

I use the AAA website. I like it because it only prints one page. You don't have to be a member to use it.

I've used Mapquest and Yahoo before, and have a GPS, but still get directions from the borrower because I relate to landmarks, especially at night. When the borrower says, "turn right at the KFC," I know I'm on the right track.

ADC Map Books are my favorite

GPS kept landing me in corn fields and online programs don't give me a big enough picture. I travel 5 counties and I have a map book for each. Except for an occasional new development I can find where I want to be easily and I get both the close up and the full county picture. I only use the online when I need mileage for my records.
