UPS

UPS has done it again, billed me instead of receiver.
How do you avoid this. Do you make the sender an the receiver the same address?

Call them and they will reverse it.

The person told me that occasionally their field folks enter it wrong. Happened to me twice and each time UPS squared it away.

Hi Pat,

Yes, I always hand write in the sender and receiver as the same using their acct #

I do use my name and address as the sender, but I always put "N/A" in the sender's account # spot. Never had an issue.

Re: UPS...maybe not an issue...but they now have

your name and address to send you a bill...

Receiver and sender always the same - my name is nowhere to be found on the airbill.

Re: UPS - Online label/account

Do you have an online account with UPS. The nice part is that when you create the label using receiver/third party account number, it verifies that it is a valid account number and verifies that billing option (receiver). Saves a lot of grief. It won't let you create a label with an invalid account number.

Re: UPS - Online label/account

I had an account with UPS and they still kept billing me by mistake. I spent many hours on the phone disputing the charges and even sent them my copies of the air bills showing that I had checked bill to receiver and had the right account number for billing. After many, many lengthy phone calls and promises that they would take care of it I finally got a notice saying they had turned me over to a collection agency. Of course, then I had to pay the charges. Needless to say, I closed out my account with them and always put the receivers information as sender and receiver. Interestingly, I've been doing signings for 8 years and have never had that problem with FedEx. If I have a choice I alway use FedEx now.

Re: UPS - Online label/account

I used to do on-line label prep, but UPS billed me for a shipment where the TC closed their UPS account (they decided to start using DHL) and that shipment did not get paid for by the TC. Why that was I don't know, since it should have shown as an outstanding charge on the TC's UPS billing. But in any case, UPS told me that the TC's account "could not be billed" and since I was the shipper, I got socked with the $20 shipment charge plus a $10 chargeback fee. I immediately ceased using online billing for UPS and FedEx so I would never be in that situation again.

Now, TC's name is always listed as the shipper AND receiver on my handwritten airbills, which are retrieved from drop boxes so I am not traceable in any way.

UPS closed my acct. for being inactive. Of course, I never

shipped anything that was billed to my acct. They have gotten really wierd, and I heard it's because there's a lot of fraud going on, with people using false accts. for shipping.
I'd call them to have it billed to the receiver.

Re: UPS closed my acct. for being inactive. Of course, I never

My UPS account was closed for being inactive, too. No problem, I just ship via FedEx for all my Christmas and birthday gifts. FedEx is so much easier to deal with, so they get my business instead of UPS. I order my UPS supplies via an order sheet sent by fax. I just order a lot at a time so I don't have to deal with them too often.

This is eye opening.

I'm glad I don't have to use them often.

UPS vs. FedEx

I agree I much prefer FedEx. When choice is mine, I use Fedex

Re: UPS airbills

Like Stoli, I also get my UPS airbills from either the drop box or the friendly guys at the UPS store. They give me a huge stack. If you don't put your name anywhere on the airbill, you won't be charged

Pat:

I'm happy to know that UPS hasn't been singling me out for billing abuse. I tried every variation of shipping method to try and avoid their billing problems, and I never could get out in front of them.

Then I discovered this little trick: go to the drop boxes and get your airbills from the box. List the receiver in both areas, shipper and receiver.

If you use your online account, UPS can trace the shipment back to you and bill your account.
If you use pre-printed airbills, they have your account number in the bar code, and that, too can be traced back to you.
If you get an airbill from the UPS Store, the store's account number is in the barcode, and the store is billed.

If you pick up the airbills from the drop boxes, there isn't an account number preprinted.

I've spent WAY to much time correcting billing with UPS, and they never seem to 'get it!"

To Stoli

Isn't it a shame that you have to go through this...somewhere between doing the signing and hoping/trying to get paid for it. Aggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh. I'm going to go have a glass of uhh ... diet pepsi, not. Have a good night

Yes, Barb, I agree. I ask for a preprinted label

One day I just lost it with UPS -- I heard my self scream, "I don't need you; I LOVE FedEx." They always correct the problem, but it takes too much time on the telephone. I was ashamed that I lost my temper, but it adds up to a lot of money, and they take it directly out of my checking account.

UPS & FedEx

I use the online airbill software provided by UPS (MyUPS and QuantumView) and FedEx (ShipManager and MyFedEx). I've never had a problem with UPS but, for a while, had extra billing from FedEx for "home pickup" when "dropoff" was always selected. I called my account manager and had the fees removed, but that was a hassle since it happened frequently. Finally I contacted the billing control VP who made some changes to my account that weren't being done by the account manager, even when he said he made the changes, or the changes he made weren't 'sticking' to my profile. At any rate, all the billing issues with FedEx have been resolved.

I frequently need to send documents all over the country and many foreign countries. USPS (not UPS) and FedEx are my choices. (FedEx often comes in at a lower price due to commercial discounts.) Recently, I found out the international packages sent through USPS (the Post Office), for the international leg of the trip are often handled by FedEx.

True statement, PAW. FedEx

My husband was in a horrible rush to catch an international flight home to Provence, France, and inadvertently left the camera battery in the charger in the kitchen. He called and asked me to ship the battery.

Try as I might, I could not figure out the Federal Express ship manager’s requirements for shipping a battery to a foreign country. I don’t know where it was manufactured ---- nor do I care. After spending way too much time on it, I decided to take it to the post office (USPS) for shipment. In less than two minutes, they put a Federal Express label on the package. He had the battery in two days. I love FedEx.
