Why???

Got a call several days ago from a SS to do a RM. They offered $75 to print and sign.

I quoted my price and they did not try to negotiate.

Hours later another notary called me (they are a friend). She had took this RM at $75, justifying it to herself that she needed to go to that area anyway. (She drove about 10 miles one-way further than I would have).

She called because she needed me to walk her through it!!!!!!

Even if you're sitting at your fav java joint, you're too busy to do this low ball fee based work. Let the amateurs have it.

So, because you did, the signing service got the benefit of a qualified signing agent by paying only $75 to an unqualified one.

Smart.

Friendship is one thing but this is business

I know it's hard to say no to a friend .... but when it comes to things like this, no good deed goes unpunished. First of all, everybody's jumping on you for helping her when you shouldn't have. But more important, this is NOT your signing and your friend may turn on you for any "misunderstandings" or "miscommunications." Not that this will ever happen again, but if it does, be prepared with a "I can't get involved in somebody else's business transaction (or whatever) and you need to contact your hiring agency for guidance." Or some other response you think will work. It's bad enough when other notaries call me for help when they're in too deep in something because it's hard (and maybe dangerous) to tell them what to do when we don't know everything that's going on - but doubly so when they took a signing you rightfully turned down.

I know this girl and she really won't last long. She backs out at the last minute and doesn't know what she is doing most of the time. She only takes signings when she is in need of money. So she turns down, messes up, or turns back at the last minute most signings.

I helped because it was an elderly couple in need of a RM and my Spiritual Beliefs would have let me do nothing less.

IMO that wasn't a smart move. The only person you really helped was the low-ball ss.
Why would you do that???? Frown

Well, Mary Ellen, you can kiss that company goodbye

You just helped them find a cheaper notary and slit your own throat in the process.

Personally I think that other notary had a lot of nerve asking you to do that...

In defense of Mary Ellen, folks...she said the notary

was a friend.

We can all see that this notary is not a very good friend to expect help from ME.

I don't know that if I were in the same situation I would not have told the notary what to do, as well. It takes one of those to realize that you don't have to do the "nice" thing.

That's my view on this.

You'll know next time ME.

In all honesty - I think my reply to the "other"

notary would have been "two notes, two mortgages, treat it like a regular refi, and how can you justify taking such a low fee??!!" -

That would have been the end of it for me.

Re: In all honesty - I think my reply to the "other"

I did explain to her she had taken a low ball fee and that she was loosing money on the deal. That is when she said, But I had to come down here anyway."

We are good friends. I have offered to train her with dummy docs, but she refuses. This was a company that did not know her--they will not hire again.

It would actually be nice to have another good notary in this area as many times I can not handle all the calls I get. Its just the two of us. She is not online advertising anywhere. She won't evn take that advice.

Sad to say, but she will not last much longer in the biz.

Sometimes you just cannot help another....they won't allow it.
