first american signature services

I accepted a closing, called to confirm with borrower and when i went on their site to show confirmed with borrower there was no signing listed for that borrower. When I called First Am they said borrower backed out, not true, then said lender required a certified signing agent from the NNA. I have probably closed over 500 loans with First Am, you would think they would support the notaries they use but no. She then asked me why I did not get my certification from the NNA so they could use me with that lender. I told her it wasnt worth my time or money, I have over 4000 closings and know what I am doing.

background checked

Where else can I get DOJ background checked? I am a member of NNA and have all my stuff coming up for renewal. Please tell me what my options are.

Right here, Sha. Personally, I won't do business with NNA.

Notary Rotary's BGC (background check) is as valid, if not more comprehensive, as anyone's.

Save money, get a better deal, and spend smartly. Ditch the NNA.

jmho.

Thank you for the help. Why won't you do business with the NNA. What am I missing?

Because they are a Notary mill; they offer inaccurate

information; they did not resolve a purchase issue to my satisfaction without a huge hassle; they are trying to be the "end-all-be-all" in a free marketplace; and I don't like monopolies.

You may have a different experience/point of view.

Jmho.

<<<Where else can I get DOJ background checked? >>>

Your local police department can take your Livescan fingerprints, which will go to the CA DOJ and FBI. Just go to the CA SOS website and download the correct forms to take with you.

When did you get your commission?

The background check you have to get now for a CA notary commission includes not only an FBI check, but a DOJ check, as well.

The NNA certification concept I think is just ridiculous. I had one before I ever did my first signing. Does anyone think I was more qualified then than I am now, eight years and thousands of signings later? Uhhhh..... I don't think so - by a very wide margin!

Just curious, how is what they are doing now different from

what XYZ was sued over recently?

I'm asking because I thought that is what they did (or very similar) prior. Admittedly, since I was not a current member when they informed us that they reached an agreement in the class action lawsuit, I didn't dig into it beyond a cursory look. I may be incorrect; it just appears to be the same thing.

IMO, these SS & TC's should consider what it looks like to the general public, and professionals in the industry, to join with (and basically reward XYZ with increase sales income and credibility) after they just settled a lawsuit by giving the people they wronged only $52, or a $52 'credit' for most. Wow, the retail charge of their membership in the form of a credit - what a penalty for them ... give away a 1 yr membership while and increase sales by doing what looks to be the same thing.

But then again, the companies that scratch XYZ's back have their pick of "low ball offer" accepting new notaries that XYZ has sold, IMO, a fairytale idea of what the "normal" (or what XYZ considers a professional fee). Overall, the new notaries don't know any better, after all XYZ told them $50/per is good pay.

IMO, if a SS, lender or TC requires that only a 'certified' SA be used they should expect to pay these "more qualified" (at least in their eyes) SA's no less than $150-$200/per assignment for VERY local straight refi jobs with normal size edoc packages. And loose 100% the QC fax backs, after all, the SA is "certified". However, very few of these 'elite' companies are willing to offer $1 more to their "superior" (again in their eyes only) SA's than they do for the SA that is not "certified" or associated with XYZ.

They appear to want FAO Schwarz quality but want to pay garage sale prices. Frown

Re: Do you know WHO the lender was?

confirmation showed JP Morgan Chase Bank, Columbus ohio and i have done many for that lender so I don't know if this is a new thing for them or if 1st am is just trying to tap dance due to an error on their part and maybe scheduled 2 notaries.

That's a FASS thing

When they took over Transcontinental Title they called me and told me I had x months to get an NNA BGC (which would have required membership AND certification) if I wanted to continue to close loans for them. I told them okay...unless they were going to pay all the fees for me then I guess I'd not be closing their loans. I don't, and can't say I'd want to considering all I've read about their micro-managing - not to mention TCT used to pay me twice was FASS wanted to pay.

Re: That's a FASS thing

I do 10-15 signings a month for FASS, so I do the NNA certification and BGC thing. It pi$$es me off that I have to do that but not much I can do about it. Maybe it's my area, but they do pay a fair fee and the checks come in like clockwork. I also have no problem getting a higher fee from them when the unexpected happens.
And, yes, I know that they will probably dump me eventually for cheaper notaries but for now it's profitable.
I miss TCT......

I miss TCT too - and FASS told me up front they pay $75 for e-doc signings...

$75.00 fee gets you "white glove status"

which is first crack at signings in your area. I had "white glove status" for about 10 minutes. Once I realized I had to accept the $75, I called scheduling and had them post my fee in their database and I still get plenty of work from them. If they need you, they will pay.
