American Freedome Assurance
Did 6 closings for them in Mar and April. Had a very hard time being paid. One of the borrowers was the owner of her own branch of the lender that all these closings were from. I gave her a call and asked for some help in maybe giving me a # to call. She was very gracious and was shocked that the Title Company that they are using is not paying Notaries. I in no way asked her to pay me and I assured her that was not the purpose of my call. A couple days go by and the owner of AFA called me. We talked and he assured me I would be paid and they had some internal problems and were fixing the problem. I did receive a check for all $ owed.
A month or so ago they called me again. I wasn't able to answer the phone and they left a msg. I called them back and they booked it with someone else. No problem. I talked with the scheduler and told him the problem I had the last time being paid and he understood, but I was willing to give them another chance another time.
They called me last week for a 3pm closing today (Mon). I accepted. Today at about 9:30 am a girl calls me and tells me she is taking me off the closing due to I contacted their client the last time. I proceeded to tell her that was the only way I got paid was to do that and that I had talked with the owner when that happened. I also told her that "I" am the one extending credit to them and "I" am the one who was giving "THEM" a second chance to make it right. She didn't agree. What I am reading here is that they again were not planning on paying me and the ONLY way I was going to be paid was to contact the lender again, which of course they do not want. They are on my NO list. Just warning everyone how they operate as a Title Company. How very sad.
Hoping AFA gets on here today and reads this. Bring it on AFA.

WOW. I'm very disappointed in AFA after hearing this. I had been impressed with their apparent efforts to turn around their relationship with notaries, but this just deflates the balloon for me.

Yes, very sad indeed. The way I look at it is they had 6 error free closings done by me. This is THEIR loss, not mine. I was very willing to give THEM a second chance to do the right thing by ALL of us notaries out there, not just me and to prove to ALL of us that have turned things around for the good, but obviously not. If they want error free work from a SA that will go just about any length to "get r done", they just lost one.

Please add comments to Signing Central and link this post
All of us will benefit from this information, and it makes it easier for us to decline signings from AFA.

Megan in A/P: [e-mail address]. I was paid for one signing from August & have another due from Sept. Mick Cancio had posted here a while back, trying to assure everyone they would get the payment issues resolved. It's the very reason I stopped working for them a couple years back, and this is exactly the same scenario. I don't work for ANY companies that I have to chase down my money. I keep up my end of the deal & their's is to pay me in a reasonable amt. of time. If they don't, it's a deal-breaker--end of story!

People, how often do you you pay your bills? Once a month, so why should signing companies pay you before the month is over? Have you all lost your minds? Anyone hear about things being slow, cut backs, lay offs, yet you all sit here (working i presume) expecting to get paid within the month? It makes the rest of us earning great money look bad!!!

Ok Miss Ann ABC Notary. I will GLADLY wait till the month
is over but in this case with AFA, it was 3 months. I did the closings in March and early April and did not get paid till June. That is WAAAAYYYYY over a month dear. Or do you need a calendar or can you count higher than 30 days. Sorry for being so rude, but you kind of ticked me.

Ann, what about the fact that AFA booked a job with Linda the week before, but then 5 1/2 hours before the appointment they removed her from the closing and told her it was because she had contacted their client regarding her previously past-due invoices? (Doing so DID produce payment. Had she not done that, how much longer would it have been before they paid her?)
If AFA didn't want to work with her again, they simply should not have even offered her the job in the first place.

Yes, I pay my bills once a month...however
When I get those bills they're usually due within 14 days - NOT 45 days...when I go to the doctor, charges are due *when services are rendered* NOT in 30-45 days. When I buy groceries, I need to pay on the spot, NOT 30 days...
"...yet you all sit here (working i presume) expecting to get paid within the month? It makes the rest of us earning great money look bad!!!" = what the heck does that mean??? This coming from someone who defends the likes of DFS? Msg #357230
Also, Miss Anonymous Ann, thank you so much, in your very first two posts here, for putting all of us in our places....how dare we assume we deserve to be paid on time within a reasonable amount of time - so as to be ABLE to pay those monthly bills.

Wake up Ann. In a ‘service industry’ most get paid when the ‘service’ is performed.

Re: Ann ABC
By the way Ann, just to clarify a point, and for your information. It’s the BORROWER that PAYS for our service. This happens in most cases when the loan funds. Something like three days after we notarize their signatures. There is NO REASON AT ALL for a Title Company to keep OUR money in their account for one second after the loan funds. (It may even be illegal) If you have no clue about the mechanics of this business you should stay out of it, and keep your foolish ideas to yourself. JMO

Just wondering, if a company is supposed to pay on the 7th of the month, how long after that is a reasonable amount of time to wait. Then should I send another invoice? thanks.

should I send another invoice? Answer: every day until paid
What is your business policy? do you attempt to collect aggressively? do you just wait and hope?

Linda, I'm sorry to hear you're having problems collecting. I did a closing last month and they just paid me for it. They paid in less than 3o days. They needed me to send an invoice first. Good luck to you. DD

thought invoices could only be sent on 21 of each month
so I've been waiting for Oct 21 to send an invoice for signing I did 9/24/2010. That was in my instructions. Has that been changed?

Linda is not currently trying to collect from them. She stated that they finally paid her for the six closings they owed her (and let's not forget, that must have been a significant amount of money - probably somewhere between $700 - $900 total). I think AFA has established on this forum that they are now trying to get onto a reasonable pay schedule. However the fact remains that they treated her shabbily this past Monday. Re-posted from my previous post:
