Debt Settlement Presentations
I received an email today regarding Debt Settlement Presentations. Without directly quoting the contract, it states that we are not Independent, but an Authorized Representative of the Debt Settlement Operator. The reason for this is to satisfy the requirements of the Presentations contained in the FTC Regulations, to be exempt from the advance fee ban.
That is enough for me to say NO THANK YOU!

Thanks for that info, GWest. Good to know my spidey-sense is still working just fine.

I agree - I'm staying away from ALL of these debt settlement appointments!

I don't think there's any reason why you can't be an "independent contractor" AND an "authorized representative" of any organization. Being a representative doesn't mean you have to be an employee of the company. For example, take mortgage brokers. Many are independent contractors with representative agreements with lenders.
Of course, I agree with your reasoning NOT to proceed with the assignment.

I'm staying clear of these too. It's a lot like to loan mod apps., and is about collecting the upfront fees. From what I understand, it can't be collected except in person.
