There's no excuse for the notaries who botched these documents, but what kind of attorney doesn't know that an affidavit has to actually be signed by the person swearing to the statements it contains?
This concept of "corrective affidavits" seems very creative - in golf, it's called a mulligan...
This just keeps getting worse with every revelation.

Attorneys and car dealers are probably the worst offenders when it comes to shaving things close with notarizations.
Car dealers want to do absolutely everything they can to grease the way for a sale, and if that means notarizing a signature when the notary gets back from lunch and after the purchaser has gone, then it's "Hand her the stamp."
Attorneys just figure that they're the only ones who do anything significant in the creation of documents, so they're not going to worry about something as insignificant as a proper notarization. And if anyone asks if this is a personal testimonial, I am as I type sending you a telekenetic wedgie.
